I picked up FC at the $11 sale.  I never bought it before because I know I won't be using it, but I heard enough good about it to add it to my collection.

More importantly to me, I know it's the fullest iteration of Mastercraft to date and the model for SC 3.  So what I'm wondering is this: what specific parts of FC should I read to get a sense of what SC 3 should look like (at least in principle)? Thanks.

While we're reluctant to put out any details on the specifics of the SC3 book, you'll probably want to focus on the changes to the system itself - Chapters 1, 2, and 5 will be the most relevant, since they cover characters, skills/feats/action dice, and combat. Chapters 1 & 2 are best used as a peek to changes in the structure of origins, classes, skills and feats - even if you don't play Fantasy Craft, you'll get a good idea of new design patterns and how we've simplified core parts of the game.
