That was always something I liked about a lot of the classes in 1st ed AD&D - you basically started accumulating your own personal army + HQ

I know I'll just love the Empire system already ... When 10KB hits, I'm sure I'll be folding it into my home game.

:falls down:

I've got a friend who's a Dwarf-ophile, this should make him weep with joy, obviously because of what this class infers about the Dwarf. Stellar.

If thats what an Orc is gonna be like, i get a sneaking suspicion the Dwarf is going to be even cooler/more badass

Well, ideally the Dwarf is equally mighty. The Dwarf is definitely different though. Legendary classes are set up to encompass as wide a range of archetypes the race is associated with as possible, so the Legendary Dwarf is less focused on pure kill and more focused on making the skill system weep in recognition of their great crafting skills. However, if you turn those skills to war...

So, a character with Legendary Dwarf 5 will be making his own gear, and it will be awesome? Good stuff Smiley.

Hell yes, that's proper Orky.

I was doing the math on how fun Unyielding would be with Kill The Weak. Once per combat roll that collection of d6's right back into Vit/Wounds and get right back into the thick of it no fail.
Figure a 13 Charisma prior to 5th of Legendary Ork, makes for an easy 18. Plant your uber-Ork in the middle of Cleave-able infantry, and he's potentially got 13AD to turn a near-defeat into an appallingly blood-splattered counter-attack.

Wow.  That puts the nearest "other" d20 orc warlord class to shame.  Let alone, this be for someone who already is more badaxe than the standard anyways.  Wow.

Which class/product are you thinking of?

The Orc Warlord from Races of Faerun

The Eye of Gruumsh from Complete Warrior.

For what they are, they're okay.  The Eye comes nearest in feel to yours, but I like yours sooo much better.  I find the OW to be unwieldy, even as GC, while the EoG has a good feel to it for a focused orc barbarian.

Ah. Don't have that one. Didn't quite cross my threshold of useful.

Yeah, the Eye is not bad. Stuff at every level, some of it even useful. The Wild Swing is modestly useful. The ritual scarring is something you can manage by choosing one of the ork horde feats (Western Horde I think). I do like the command the horde ability of the Eye. Doesn't entirely cement their role as leaders, but at least it gives them a little bit of a teamwork oriented ability - which tend to be pretty rare in D&D. When you see the Horde (sub-race) species feats for the Orks, I think you'll be pleased - they specialize in very different styles of warfare. The 'uruk-hai' sub-race feat is neat because the bonus isn't what you'd expect (it's not a bonus to combat... directly), but everyone who has seen it has instantly identified that one as turning a stock Ork "black-blood" into a "Uruk".

I often examine the D&D classes to see if there is a concept there worth re-tooling. Boiling a 10 level D&D class down to a 5 level Spycraft Master Class has generated some really promising packages to use as the centerpiece of various organizations. The less interesting classes ussually evaporate down to being about a single feat in Spycraft terms - one good idea that did not need 3-10 levels wrapped around it.

The one nobody has mentioned thus far that I think would be a natural is the Channeler/Legendary Ork. Fear the great ork wardancer that rains down destruction on all who would oppose the Horde!

You know, that's pretty slick, especially since Kill the Weak doesn't care how you kill them. First draw some aggro, then fire off a Dragon's Breath or two and just rake in the action dice.
