Fallout PbP: Giants in the Playground (In Character)

"Engines!" Alice turned back to face her friends. "Engines and drive shafts.  But what the blazes could they be moving?"

[Gentry]

"Some'm big, it looks like," Hondo murmurs, easing back from the gantry so he's not visible to the other techies. "Maybe this is a ship. Too bad it ain't on water or whatever."

[Bill Whitmore]

"The guy we talked to earlier said that they were running experiments on the kids.  If we can't figure out what it is they are doing, we have to assume the worst.  If the kids are in those towers, we can not let them perform that test.  Even if it means I need to go out there and start breaking in face plates."

Since they are entering "lock down" Marcus will be wary of any doors that may be closing between them and the test chamber.  If a door is closing, he wants to be on the test chamber side, even if that means he has to dive through where everyone can see him and he has to start punching in faces.

Marcus is going to look around for any loose machinery that can be used as an improvised weapon.  A length of loose pipe would be ideal, but anything small and hefty enough to be thrown in a pinch will suffice.

Whether or not he finds anything, he'll study the layout of the test chamber for stairs or ladders to access the various levels.

[Antilles]

Franklin is quite out of his element here, and grips his axe like it's his only comfort in this turbulent and everchanging world. "Don't know what the hell's goin' on here, but I'm all for stoppin' it." he whispers to the others.

[Gentry]

"This guy," says Hondo, indicating the unconscious sack of potatoes he's carrying, "said they were cuttin' kids up, not using 'em in machinery. It's sick, I know," he glances uncomfortably at Elsie, "but it's what he said. I don't think we gotta worry about kids in the towers or whatever, but maybe when they're done firin' whatever the fuck they're firin' we can use the shaft to get down to the lab level--it'll keep us off the stairs and shit and maybe keep us from gettin' caught. I say we wait it out."

[Bill Whitmore]

"They end up vivisecting, yes, but he head said that was after they ran a bunch of other tests on them and he was incredibly vague as to what those tests were.  He said they were looking for a cure for what is happening up there and that could only mean radiation.  I would not be surprised at all if they were going to irradiate the hell out of them and see how they respond.  It would also explain those suits.  At this point we don't know, and unless I know they aren't in there, so help me god, I can't let this experiment commence.  Unless anyone here can offer proof they aren't in there, I'm going after them."

[Gentry]

"I dunno, mang," Hondo shakes his head. "If we run in there and get killed, then nobody back at Empire will even know this shit's happenin' out here. And they'll just keep takin' kids. We gotta find the lab or whatever, not get all crazy over shit we don't know nothing about."

[MilitiaJim]

"Plus, I don't think we really want to destroy all this stuff.  How can we make it stop right now though?"

[glimmerrat]

The huge towers begin to rumble, and a a bass vibration thrums through the deck under your feet. Steam conduits vent in several places, and the technicians work dilligently at thier posts.

Its possible that you could cross this chamber without being seen, but you'd need to ascend one level and shimmy along one of the large support beams running across the ceiling. That'd get you to the far side of the room, and the door that you can see there that is marked 'Robotics'.

However, the lip on the edge of the support beam is about four inches wide, and it'd be a tricky climb for all of 50 ft.

Alice looked around frantically, mouthing a steady stream of curses.  "Who's got some rope?  I can bounce up to that beam," she pointed to the support beam, "and you guys can swing across."

[Antilles]

"Got some ropes in my climbing gear, give me a second..." Franklin roots around in his backpack and pulls out a coil of rope. He hands it over to Alice, with a little comment, "Be careful with it, will you? Good rope's hard to find..."

[MilitiaJim]

"Can you put a loop in the bottom?  And how much slack do you need to make it all the way across?"

The current plan is to throw a clove hitch around the beam, and the loop at the bottom will make the swinging safer.  While everyone else swings across, Alice can overwatch from the shadows/steam filled area around the ceiling, and retrieve the rope afterward.

How wide is the room anyway?

[Antilles]

"Yeah, sure." Franklin assists Alice with her cunning plan.

[Girlfriday]

When Alice finishes, Elsie firmly grasps the rope and - closing her eyes - swings... and just about manages to get a toe-hold on the far side. Her facial expression would be comical if it weren't for the situation. She finally manages to restore her balance and swings the rope back across to the others.

Marcus catches the rope on its back-swing and gracefully swings across the opening, landing neatly on the other side.  He scans the people below to see if anyone saw him as he pushed the rope back to his companions on the far side.
