"Whoa, Elsie," Hondo murmurs soothingly, almost like calming a wild horse. He puts his hand calmly on her pistol, and gently eases it down toward the holster. "It's ok. They're gone or whatever. You can put it away. Put it away. There you go."

While he helps Elsie put the gun away he looks for help to Marcus, who's way better at this than he is.

The grass waves in the breeze, which nips at exposed skin. Dark clouds are beginning to roll in.

Marcus studies the wound briefly, but realizes there isn't much he can do about it out here.  Noticing the darkening sky, Marcus curses.  "Damn.  We need to finish following these tracks and now.  As soon as that rain rolls in, they'll be washed away."  Marcus fishes a small jar from his pack and hands it to Frank.  Once we find some shelter out of the rain, I'll patch you up right, but for now, apply a little bit of this.  It'll halt the worst of the pain and itching."

"Do those clouds mean that it will soon precipitate liquid water?"  Without waiting for a reply she turned to Franklin who seems to be taking his near messy dismemberment with good grace.  "Can you cut off the hands and head so we can take them with us while we find shelter?"

Franklin smears the stuff Marcus gave him liberally, until he gets the request about cutting off bodyparts. "I can do that. Shouldn't take long..." He takes the axe and start chopping, like it was firewood and not monster parts he was working with.

After Alice and Marcus finish their grisly task, you set about trying to find the children’s tracks. You cross the wide open meadow, heading north, deeper into the Tangle as the tree line looms closer and closer.

As you approach the trees, Elsie freezes in place. You turn to look at her and notice a tiny point of red light centered on the middle of her torso. The light on your pip-boy radios blinks to indicate an incoming signal. Hesitantly tuning in, the speakers on all of them crackle for a moment, and then a voice says
*click* [That’s quite close enough, thank you] *click*

You figure the red dot originates from a laser sight, and shooter must be secreted in the trees up ahead. The voice continues *click* [You’re not Enclave, and you don’t look like raiders, so what precisely is your business in the Tangle?] *click*

"Spread out.  Slowly," Alice whispered as she crouched and swung Lady Joan up to her shoulder, looking through the low power scope searching for the "sniper." "And Elsie, can you talk him down before he gets hurt?"

Hondo takes a step away from Elsie, watching to see what she says.

Without moving a muscle, Elsie says "We're looking for two missing children who in danger. Have you seen any?" She stays surprisingly calm while saying this...

There is a momentary pause, and then *click* [Yeah, I saw a coupla kids not far from here just the other day. If you tell me where you looted that pretty necklace from, I might even tell you where] *click*

You glance reflexively at the necklace in question - it's Elsie's brotherhood holotags

Elsie scowls. "I'll have you know i'm a Junior Scribe in the Brotherhood of Steel, apprenticed to Senior Scribe Jim Clements. I worked damned hard to earn these things! Now are you gonna help us, or shoot us?" She actually looks genuinely annoyed.

There is a rustling in the trees up ahead and... something... drops out of the canopy and lands in the long grass. The lower branches and grass parts as something unseen advances out of the tree line, and suddenly the air shimmers and crackles as an armored figure seems to materialize in front of you. He holds his rifle across his chest and nods at Elsie. "I'm Knight Deakins, out of West Point. I saw two children - a boy and a girl - yesterday about a block north of here. The girl was older and i'd say they were related. They were pretty well tooled for kids. Anyway, I tailed them for a while to keep an eye on them, but they were snagged by one of the snatch teams from the caves." He shrugs, seemingly apologetically, but its hard to tell with the helmet. "Sorry. Anyway, where is Jim and his team? They haven't checked in for weeks. I was sent to look for them."

Lady Joan tracked the knight as he dropped from the tree and nearly slipped from Alice's grasp as Knight Deakins appeared in front of them.

Assured by the friendly greeting Elsie received that she would not be attacked, she dropped Lady Joan to a low ready and moved quietly around Knight Deakins, examining his stealthy armor in great detail.

"What caves?" Hondo asks flatly.

Deakins glances at Alice as she circles him, and then turns to Hondo. "Shouldn't you be banging rocks together in the gutter somewhere?" He shakes his head in disbelief, and then asks Elsie "Where'd you pick up this freak? Talk about damage to the gene pool..."
