"Pity about the ghoul infestation," Alice mumbled as she sidled closer to the robot.  "Can I have a word with Sarge?"

Elsie sidles up to the group and smiles coquettishly at them. "Say, you boys wouldn't have happened to see a coupla kids around here in the last few days would you?" She reaches inside her shirt and pulls the pictures out of her brassiere, holding them up where they can see them. "Really boys, anything that you can tell would be helpful... and i'd just be so grateful, y'know" She adds a hint of a smile as a devastating finishing move.

Marcus opens his mouth to speak just as Elsie goes into her spiel.  Realizing that this is her area of expertise and that he won't be able to add anything meaningful to the conversation, he just closes his mouth and waits for an answer from the guys.

The men listen to Elsie intently, and their facial expressions seem to be a mixture of slack-jawed awe, or nervous half-smiles. After she asks her question, it takes them a second or two to realize that she was actually talking. The one who spoke earlier pipes up with "Kids? Uh, I... no. I mean, that is we - have we seen any kids? Guys?" They all mumble that no, they haven't, except for one who quietly says "Now I wish I had..." Their leader shrugs apologetically. "Sorry ma'am, we haven't seen any around here." He looks thoughtful for a moment. "Hold on a second..." He speaks into a radio attached to his webbing. "Control? This is 2-L-16 at the Central Library. We've got some private citizens reporting two missing children..." He goes on to pass names and descriptions of the kids to 'control', and then turns to Elsie with a satisfied smile. "We may not be able to help you directly, but now every cop in Manhattan is looking for them too." Did he just say 'cop'?

"Cop?" asks Hondo to no one in particular. "There's cops?"

Taking the murmurs of chatter with Elsie as assent, Alice began examining Sarge.

The man nods to Hondo with a little smile. "That's correct sir, the NyPD is alive and well. Most of our forces are tied up trying to stop the Lamia's super mutants from expanding out of Queens, but a fair few of us are regularly rotated out to Old Manhattan to keep things in order."

Alice continued to inspect the robot, now with half an ear to the noises of conversation.

"What's a Lamia?" asks Hondo.

At this question, they all exchange surprised glances. "The Lamia is a mutant, and a powerful one too. She... umm... 'it' seems to be the leader of the super mutants in the Queens Blight. No-one has ever seen it in person, but if it can bring the super mutants to heel... well." He lets that last statement hang in the air. "You're not from around here, are you?"

"Nah," replies Hondo with a shrug. He does not elaborate.

Poking her head around the robot's torso, Alice's voice filled the about-to-be-awkward silence. "It's a nice patch, but something chewed on Sarge pretty good.  What was it?"

Sarge quickly turns on the spot, nearly accidentally knocking Alice over. "GHOULS ma'am - filthy ingrates! Damaging a fine piece of law enforcement equipment like me, and public property to boot!" The leader of the group raises an eyebrow at Sarge, then says as an aside to one of his colleagues "Remind me to have this unit's memory core formatted when we get back..."

She took a few staggering steps a few steps from the impact.  "Reformatted?!" Alice asked, her voice carrying a scandalized tone.  "But what can that help?  Do you really want him to forget everything he's learned about keeping everyone safe from these 'ghouls'?"
