For Pathfinder, they have Regional Feats which are very simple and only grant a simple bones like +1 to Initiative or +1 to Ride. Nothing too dramatic or overriding but very simple.

I've play tested this evening the posted method ... It worked like a charm!  Cheesy

I made only the following corrections, because, as  wisely pointed out by jameswllorimer among others  Grin , talent list + specialty list = in some cases could become too restraining:

  • Race subtype - If a PC choose his/her talent among the selected list, he/she gains access to the race's racial feats (listed in the FR campaign setting)*
  • Specialty - If a PC agrees to select his/her specialty from his/her homecountry suggested ones, he/she get the listed bonus equipment.

*note that if a particular talent is not limited to 1st level only, the PC can take it later (the exact mechanic of this to be tested, possibly an interest expenditure?)

Are you talking about letting a character take a second Talent or Feat? All Talents are taken during character creation, and that's it.

I'm talking about those special FR feats called Regional Feats that can be converted in a sort of Origin Feats. (Conversion to be done...) I've ruled that you can choose one of this feat as your 1st level feat, only if you choose your talent among those listed for your subrace.

I've also proposed, to not limit my players too much, that, if they still want to have a particular Origin Feat unavailable to them because  they do not choose their talent among those listed for their ethnicity, by spending some interest (How many? How?)  and if the feat is not 1st level only (some of the feats can be taken only during character creation), they can take that feat later in their career.

Given the fact I'm currently playtesting the proposed conversione rules, I'll post major considerations here:

To summarise what I'm using:

- a PC select the human subrace to play, then the talent. If the talent is among the suggested ones for that race, he become a *typical member of that race.

- the PC then his homeland region. If his race is among those common for the region AND he is a *typical member, he gain the Bonus Study(homeland) interest, which is a prerequisite for the regional feats.

- then the specialty: if choosed among the listed options, a bonus equip is gained.

PCs automatically gain a study in their homeland - Page 61, Starting Interests.  If you want to stick with giving a benefit for having a "typical" Talent, something else might be in order.  I can't think of any ideas as to what you would want to give though, as my approach to something like Forgotten Realms would be quite different.

I know that players automatically gain the homeland study, but I opted to modify the rules a bit... Which is your approach to FR?

Fair enough, just making sure you didn't overlook that paragraph (quite a few in my gaming group did).

Hi again!

Now that my campaign has started, I would like to continue on this project. Maybe we can post our work in the http://www.fantasycraftdb.com/... (Copyright issues permitting).

There are a lot of things to do and I have an ongoing campaign to test them  Smiley

P.s.: Now that I'm no longer in a hurry, maybe the ethnicity system can be rethought maybe more in line with the Adventure Companion.
