I was just wondering if this is a stand by must have item for your group as it is for mine?
It has become some what of a standard item that is usually acquired some how during the very 1st adventure.  Simply because we don't want to deal with encumbrance book keeping and all that other stuff.
The other part of my question is what do you all think about not having it count against the number of magic items.  I doubt it will throw off things too much but it is always nice to hear other perspectives.

I have a wonderfull group of players who arent all about the loot, so I never used a bag.  I let em grab some stuff, but mostly they want to discover the story.  With money thay are pretty easy-come easy-go.  It helps that I am liberal with letting each character find some signature gear without too much trouble.  They are usually satisfied that they already have the cool item for their class so they don't go looking for more to much.

In FC I am looking forward to using Reputation to let them get cool gear so they will be focused on heroic deeds rather than makingmoney, hopefully it works out well.

An quasi-cinematic tweak on this I've seen has been called by my game group "the bag". In brief, a list of stuff gets designated "bag stuff"--this is generally a variety of potions, scrolls, and miscellaneous crap that most groups accumulate. The total weight of the stuff on this list gets divided by the number of people who want to carry a portion, so everyone's carrying an equal share.

In play, anyone who's carrying "the bag" can access the entire list of "bag stuff" and pull out of the bag anything from that list, on the assumption that it was in their share for that day.

That's.......that's really quite nice.

I like this a lot.  It solves a lot of the accounting issues and what not.  While still maintaining the importance of weight and finite resources.

This could be a campaign quality:

Bag of Holding (Permanent)
All encumbrance values are ignored.  At dramatically (or comedicly Wink) appropriate moments the GM may pay 1 AD to force a character to either drop carried gear/goods or suffer encumbrance penalties.

Better yet:
Bag of Holding (Permanent)
All encumbrance values are ignored.  At dramatically (or comedicly Wink) appropriate moments the GM may pay 1 AD to force a character to roll a notice (failing that, a search) in order to find the object desired. DC modified by how much stuff is in the bag."
