New Web NPC Builder Beta
« on: September 17, 2010, 02:22:35 PM »
Hi all,

Over the past month or so I've completely re-built the NPC builder from scratch in an entirely new way. The net result is something which is pretty much the same as before, but should be faster and more stable.

I was about to push it live, but since it is completely new there's likely to be a number of bugs in there that I've missed. So I'm pushing out a beta for people to try. http://www.meadicus.plus.com/craftygames/npc-beta

There are some new features
* Fantasy Craft random name generator
* Spycraft 2.0 Threat-Level statter

Playing with the random name generator is a lot of fun. More than I expected it to be. :D

It's all there in the book! Meadicus did a great job - such a cool tool!

It is ridiculously fun, I've regularly used it to generate random names mid-game. The players will never forget the day they met Cyloth Willow Slayer.

After a cursory inspection, things seem okay. I'm sure I might stumble across things when I start going more in-depth and actually craft some NPCs. Hm... I have a game that I'll be running for some friends who are unsure about the system, back north. I'll start prepping NPCs soon and see if I find anything.

Very nifty, from a similarly cursory inspection.  I'm no expert on building NPCs to start with, though...

I only discovered you're NPC builder this week, and I have to say: it, Sir,  is the pimp.

So... Yay! Free Candy!!

edit: Ooooh, I like the "current" boxes under attacks and qualities and such, smoooth.

Looks awesome, one suggestion, consider sorting the Class Ability Quality options by Class.

I had trouble editing extraordinary attacks and qualities after I entered them...the box just closed instead of opening the entry for editing.  Just and FYI

Hmm, must be a problem related to some detail of the extraordinary attacks/qualities you've added. Could you drop the stat block onto the forum, or PM it to me, so that I can take a look. Also knowing what browser you're using will help.

OK, I tried it out a bit more to try and narrow down the issue.

First off, it seems to be occurring only in the google chrome browser, and I have discovered that refreshing the page actually "fixes" the form and bypasses the problem, so it isn't such a big deal.

That being said I tried to narrow down the conditions of when the edit boxes stopped being responsive but I can't seem to get a series of entries/actions that consistently causes the behavior, unfortunately.  It just seems that after a variable amount of quality/weapon entries and edits, the edit qualities box fails to respond and while it will allow you to select the add qualities box, these qualities will no longer apply to the stat block.  As I said refreshing the page fixes it.

I will keep my eye on it to see if I can get any better info.

The builder is just awesome! Thanks!  ;D  And I agree. Sorting class abilities by class would be a great idea (even if there can be some doubles).

I built all my NPCs with it for a game at the weekend; it ran without a hitch. Thanks!
