The question mark is meant for this is an idea that I've had banging around my head but I've never been able to get to work out for me in any sort of significant way. Basically, my group is wanting to start up their own little mercenary group and while they don't care much for the crunch and it'll be easy enough for me to run the recruitment and handling them as story elements, I like to have numbers to back things up.

I'm looking to design a Prize that allows the group to call on groups of people rather than just the one person that a Contact offers. Sort of along the lines of Followers/More Followers, but on an even larger scale. It's getting too late for me to really get into it any more than this, but hopefully this'll get some wheels turning and you guys can throw me some thoughts that might help my own brainbox wrap itself around the idea.

From a "can the current rules do it?" perspective, can you get a contact with the Followers/More Followers feat?

I know Personal Lieutenant's etc can't but I'm not sure about Contacts.

I would make mercenaries a prize that cost a number of rep equal to twice their XP value.  Have them called on in the same way as a contact, and give you a number equal to the size of the PC group.  Improve them the same way as contacts [25 rep per trust bump / rep equal to xp bumps].

Ignoring that you can't get them as temporary feats, they're a little weak - unless the PC who takes them has a some actual gear feats you're looking at a dozen 30xp followers.  Out of the Rogues Gallery that only really gives us Goons.  Not saying it's a bad idea or anything - especially since Foghorn is the GM and can ignore the temporary feat rule.

No. Followers is not allowed for NPCs, per the feat's text (Requirements: Player Character only).

This sort of thing - hirelings that work for a group - will be handled as part of the Organization rules. In the current draft, it is one aspect of an organization - some have minions, some don't.

Until then, you always have the Hirelings Favor, which should do the trick.

I figured that the Organization rules would cover it, but I was looking for a quick fix until then. I'll take a look back over the Hirelings Favor and maybe even tweak the Channel rules from Big Score in a way to make the group happy. Thanks, Alex

Well hurry up. I'm keen to have PC's lead armies in the second half of an epic campiagn. Yes you can use narrative fient to fudge around it as a referee but what if you want the players to drive the plot? You want to bound that freedom.

Tellya what - you convince my day-job boss, mortgage company, wife's loan officer, and a few other parties my need to go develop games full-time and I'll be glad to do so Tongue

Does crash space where ever I happen to be count for anything?

And when I hit the lotto jackpot, Crafty will be a full time operation.   Grin  (This may take a while, I don't actually play.  The odds are slightly worse than betting on a three legged dachshund to win a horse race.)
