getting ready to run a FC campaign for my home group using ToHA (starting with darkest hour). the players have all turned in their character ideas to me with pretty specific ideas for me to build each character then go over it with them to make any tweaks as necessary.

i got 2 soldiers (both human), 1 burglar (pech) got those handled and working on finishing them up, but i need a little help with the mage. toss me some ideas of what type of mage a novice player might be able to play in the ToHA  and have fun and not feel at a loss with trying to run. to be honest the mage and the priest i have a little more trouble wrapping my head around, as i try to lose the last 30 years of D&D notions that are still floating around in there.

the traditional fantasy races only with a 40 point build starting level is 3. the more fantastical races are out as players, no drakes, rootwalkers, etc.

all the mage player has given me was I like to play wizards, and thieves, since we already have a burglar, i figured mage, and he hasn't played any rpgs since AD&D 2e.

One of the coolest things about the FC Mage is he has the same number of skills as a Burglar, added to a good int we are looking at all the skill bases covered for the party. I would make sure that is the case. Maybe give him some spells that deal with undead!

Lets see um I would consider an Elf w/ either the sorcerer or even possibly druid specialty both could give you a nice 2nd ed feel.
I actually like the druid because you get an animal partner and the rest of it just feels very 2nd edition elf like to me.

i was looking at an elf, with possible adept to give him the turning ability, which might come in useful, along with the other abilities.  i figure it's been such a long time the hint could come in useful as well. i don't think druid, b/c i don't want to overwhelm him with another "character" to control.

having him be a secondary skill monkey is another plus, b/c he used to like to play rogues back in the day.

i'll have to think on it some just been skimming the book at work today, but i'm kinda liking elf/adept or adaptable or intelligent/adept. i'll do some reading before bed and check it out tomorrow some.
