World on Fire brings us back the Martial Artist, as well as some Asian-themed villains.

One of my favored action genres of old (as my latest avatar may suggest) is the "Martial Arts Tourney for Great Justice" genre, perhaps best exemplified by Enter the Dragon, or more recently, Mortal Kombat, though there are other movies, comics, and (since Scott seems to be such a fan of videogames as Spycraft inspiration...) videogames that crowd the genre.

What do you think? How would such a campaign fit into World on Fire as a whole?

I'm sure that it'll fit to an extent - though I can't see it as a facet that will be explored. Don't forget about Throwdown too, while a lot of it sounds OTT (fireballs!) I get the feeling it will add some less magical techniques and moves too.

This is definately possible - the Edge in WoF is a great sort of Street Fighter-esque power in many ways. Combine that with the Martial Artist and Practice Makes Perfect and I think Enter the Dragon would be quite easy to do. In fact, I woke up this morning thinking about making a Gorgon Martial Artist with Snake Style Kung Fun as a stress test for Practice Makes Perfect in the field....heheheh  Cool

Didn't someone on the old forum make a long list of martial arts styles, complete with neat descriptions of how they worked? I though it got wiki'd, but I can't find it  Sad.

I think that you are speaking of my homebrew styles I posted a month or so after the first site went online.
It was WIP until I was forced by life to shelve it. But I got back to it a few weeks ago.
I can post it if you wish to.

And if you'd like I can also convert most real life martial arts into 4-feat-list styles for SC (just drop a line which one you'd like to see).

:raises hand: I vote yes. Krav Maga and any modern mixed styles would be appreciated.

Yes, indeed! Martial arts predominantly comes into play when you're dealing with the Nine Tiger Dynasty, a quasi-cult with an... interesting history (that's fully detailed in the book, of course). The Nine Tiger Dynasty recognizes the Edge and train to tap into it, but they're not entirely aware of its origins. But all that's beside your point, which is tournaments! Being an old world throwback faction, the NTD adheres to a lot of the same traditions that fueled your listed inspirations. They host tournaments as a matter of course, hosted in remote mountain retreats and other areas. Duels are held for status, to satisfy grudges, decide matters of hierarchy, and for a variety of other reasons. Probably just what you're looking for! Smiley

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, there's another group in the setting that hosts melee and unarmed combats as a matter of tradition, though they tend to be a lot more infrequent, personal, and bloody. Scott wrote that section, and it's about the group we aren't talking about until the book comes out.  Wink
