Inception worked on so many levels that I don't think people caught all of the levels that were going on. Did you ever consider what Michael Caine's character's true involvement was?

I felt Caines character kinda served as an anchor. Since he never goes into the dreams we can assume that he lets us know what is real and what isn't real when things start getting all jumbled up.

Do you remember what a totem is? How it can only belong to that one person?

What is Caine doing DiCaprio sees him in the film the auditorium?

There have been a huge list already but I don't remember if 'Body of Lies' has been mentioned already. Anyway it's my vote as well as modern Bonds (Craig era) and Bourne movies.

I am not sure if this qualifies (or is this more PI stuff) but which at least gave a good tone was TV series 'Equalizer'.

I think the Equalizer is a little like Burn Notice with its "ex ops dude helping out regular folks altruistically" premise.

There's a '70s British TV show called Callan with Edward Woodward, actually. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I've heard its a good darkish spy/assassin show. I also heard that the character he played years later in the Equalizer could be based on that role.

So I was watching Total Recall tonight, and thinking that it could contribute, at least conceptually, to a pretty good spy idea.  Just have at least some of the players take an amneisa subplot and have the game unfold into why they were mind-wiped and the conspirators behind it.  It doesn't have to be as over the top awesome as Total Recall of course, but certainly could be.

It is going to have a lot of trouble reaching Total Recall's awesome without triple breasted women.  (Prostitute not necessary.)

Yeah, the basic plot minus the Mars stuff has the makings of being a good game...even a solo campaign would work for a while.

The novelization's ok and fleshes some things out, but the novelette they're based on is better then both put together.

But then Dick always could write a mindscrew.

Too bad Hollywood keeps reducing his work to overly simplistic tripe.

I have to agree with that. Just look at The Minority Report for example.
In the film, only the girl has the minority report but in the book, there are actually three minority reports although two of them are close enough that people think that they're the same.

There's only been a few good renditions of his work.

Screamers is a competent adaptation of Second Variety and Impostor is a very good rendition of Impostor.

A Scanner Darkly though, is probably the only film to really present Dick properly.

Sadly, I doubt the upcoming ones will be watchable for me. The Adjustment Bureau looks like another case where the screenwriter and director didn't read the story, and Radio Free Albemuth? No way that gets a proper treatment.

Surprisingly, Disney's The Elf King might actually come out OK, if they're willing to be a little dark about it and leave out the musical numbers.

Well, it was also as boring as a dental exam.

You're welcome to your opinion. Even if it is wrong. Wink

These were both early editions to the list. have you seen the '88-'89 Mission: Impossible series? ... It was filmed in Australia and did star Peter Graves with 4 other actors including Jane Badler (previously of the original V at that time in the 2nd Season).

I really liked that version of Mission Impossible.  If it ever comes out on DVD I will pick up a copy.

I will also toss in my vote for Shadowforce Archer.  I frequently take out one of those books and read through them.  I would love to see more information on the factions that didn't get a dedicated book.

And I'll add:

Salt
Taken
Traitor
The Iron Giant
La Femme Nitika / Nikita (both original French movie and recent TV series)
The Guns of Navarone
Where Eagles Dare
