From the FOX press release:

Quote
The series premiere of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES is the highest-rated series debut of the 07/08 season and broadcast television’s highest-rated scripted series debut in three years among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (since CBS’ Numb3rs on 1/23/05) and in almost two years in Total Viewers (since CBS’ The Unit on 3/7/06).  Compared to the previous highest-rated debut of the season (NBC’s American Gladiator last Sunday, 1/6/07), TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES shows a significant advantage, including +31% among Adults 18-49 and +52% in Total Viewers.

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES posted FOX’s highest-rated scripted series debut in over seven years among Adults 18-49 (since Dark Angel on 10/3/00), in eight years in Total Viewers (since Malcolm In The Middle on 1/9/00) and in almost five years in Adults 18-34 (since Oliver Beene on 3/9/03).

It didn't have Monday's numbers, but if the numbers hold true, it'll be around for a while.

That is really good to hear ThunderMonkey. Terminator 2 (as a sequel to the cult classic Terminator) was an iconic film and enormously popular with at great number of people. I'm glad they're taking the tone from that movie rather than T3 (somewhat enjoyable in it's own way). We all know that it's all going to come down to the writing, because the acting choices already look pretty solid. Here's hoping they strike the right balance between episodic and arc structure needed to satisfy cult and mainstream fans on a network show.

I haven't seen the pilot or the new episode, nor will I so long as the writer's strike is on.  The last thing I want to do is become invested in yet another show doomed to death before it begins.

That couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the writers strike means that about every other channel is filled with reality TV and reruns, could it?

That said, I was liking what little of the second episode I was able to see.

It definitely could. They're citing strategic advertising, and... maybe, but I've not seen as much as those numbers convey. If it's a significant factor then it's been spectacularly targeted, and if that's the case kudos to the marketing team.

That's the whole point... the show was supposed to debut later this year for the May sweeps, but with the strike it was moved to give FOX a boost for the February sweeps.

I love that they mention how well the show did when compared to last week's American Gladiators. I think you could put on 44 minutes of a dog balancing a ball on its nose to the looping track of Yakety Sax* and get higher ratings that AG!

*Knowing American TV execs, this show probably already exists Tongue

As it happens...

I heard about it on the radio this morning. I'm still ashamed to live here.  Embarrassed

Finally, proof that Network Execs killed God, stuffed his body in the trunk of a late model sedan and drove it off the end of a deep water port peir.

It's not all bad, we're just about to get the 4th seasons of both Boston Legal and House here. That's two fine examples of quality American programming. Oh, and before you ask, it does feel a little odd using a Shatner show and 'quality programming' in the same sentance.

Not from my perspective. Except for his mid-90s "pimp anything" days, Shatner's always been the man!

The role really is perfect for him. I feel the same about James Spader as Alan Shore, though. They really nailed the core cast on that show. You know it's working when they dump pretty much everyone else - three times - without missing a beat.

Or, Fox could do what it did with Firefly.

Which is possibly why Nathan Fillion was not cast for this show, at all. I don't think he auditioned, but still, his track record with Fox is far from stellar.
