Picked up all four seasons of Farscape on the weekend for A$130 as opposed to the $320 - $400 they'd previously been selling for ever since they came out. All I need to do now is pick up Peacekeeper Wars, and then I'll finally be able to watch the final season that ws never screened here.

I've been watching the 1st season over the past week and falling in love with this series all over again. It's amazing story telling, and even though I know what's happening and will happen, it's still bringing tears to the eye. And it still amazes me how alive the puppet characters seem.

Gah! Frell it, I've reached the end of Season 4 and don't yet have a copy of Peacekeeper Wars.

The ep where John watches the current affairs program spawned by his visit to Earth was perhaps the cleverest and best episode of the series. The weakpoint of the final season for me was the presence of the Peacekeepers in the We're So Screwed trilogy at what's meant to be one of the most secret bases in all of Scarran space.

Finally the Farscape marathon is over, having just seen The Peacekeeper Wars. Oh, to see that opening battle sequence on the big screen would be worth the price of admission alone.

As a conclusion to the series, PKW is mostly successful. However, there were some problems too not all of which seemed due to the brutally truncated season. Though I can understand why they did it, the simplified prosthetic make up for Scorpious and the War Minister was quite jarring, as was the very prominent reuse of two previous actors in prominent roles. Given the radical nature of Hynerian biology, the whole thing with Rygel just beggars belief - there was no plot reason for it at all.

So I'm marthoning Farscape again a year after the last one and I'm 2 discs into season 3, and I'm struck by just how dark this series is, with all the shifting allegiances and death and madness and things that go horribly horribly wrong.

I'm still not sure that having such blatantly unlikeable characters as Stark and Jool was genius or insanity -- and there was a lot of both -- but when this series got it right, they got it very very right indeed.

I never liked Jool, I found Stark eccentric but eventually ended up liking him as a character.
