"Ok, I can do this."

Marcus climbs up the ladder and gets to work, occasionally requesting different tools or lighting from a specific angle.  When he is finished, he climbs down the ladder and dusts off his hands.

"That should do it.  Let's go flip the breaker back on to make sure."

Franklin stands next to the ladder, sipping coffee with one hand and handing Marcus the tools he asked for (and getting about half the tools right the first time). When Marcus declares they are done, he finishes the cup, and remarks, "Well now, that was fairly painless. I wonder how the others are doing..."

"Get away, getaway, GETAWAY!" Alice shouts fury and fear as she smashes Jenkins down on the radroaches chewing at her legs.

The Filters Team

Hondo and Alice are surrounded by the snapping, hissing ‘roaches. Hondo tries to stamp on one of them, which nimbly ducks back out of the way – in frustration, he kicks it as if he were trying to score a field goal, launching it across the room where it smashes against the wall with a splat, fragments sliding downwards leaving a green smear on the concrete. Alice goes to work with Jenkins, hacking away with it as if the wrench were an axe. After a few swipes, the old wrench finds it mark, crushing a ‘roach to paste. The remaining vermin show no sign of fleeing, as if their buggy little brains simply can’t comprehend the prospect of retreat. Alice is nipped painfully on the hand holding Jenkins, and with a yelp she slaps the ‘roach away.

The Reactor Team

After a solid hour of stripping wires, clipping out fused sections of cable and splicing in fresh replacements, the job looks to be done. You move the stepladders back up the stairs and, with crossed fingers, flip the breakers. With a reassuring hum, the lights come back up, and the wiring appears to hold. Ok; that’s one job down. Now for the reactor itself…

At the bottom of the stairs you are confronted with a large, sealed steel door, with a very prevalent yellow and black radiation warning sign on it. You open the door and enter the very heart of the Vault.

The reactor level is accessible from both ends of the Vault; one 'up front' by the main entrance, and another further back into the facility. Vault 46 has a population somewhat below the levels recommended in the Vault-Tec manual. As a result there is not enough technical staff to actually have someone down here all the time, and the only work usually carried out on the reactor level is vital maintenance. With the hardline repaired, all of the monitoring work can be carried out in C&C. The lights flicker to life as the door closes behind you with a
hiss-thunk. Your pip-boy geiger counters immediately begin emitting periodic clicks.

Following the hallway to the reactor control room, you see up ahead that the chamber is sealed (much like behind you), and a yellow warning light is lit up on the panel next to the door. The digital readout indicates an ambient radiation level of around 150 rems inside the chamber - it is highly unlikely to be fatal, but it will make you very ill indeed.

Elsie grabs each of the lads arms pulling them back, and with a big gulp she says " Do we have to go in there without suits? I don't want to get sick and I may want to have kids some day..."

"OwW!"  Alice stomped at the other radroach, pushing off as she triggered the hover motor she had salvaged from the broken Mr. Handy, launching herself to the other side of the room, the Red Queen flinging a ruby bolt at the radroach that had bitten her, taking a divot out of the wall near the corner of the room.

"Alice, get on the--" Hondo cuts his thought short as Alice flings herself in a different direction. He stomps bugs instead of thinking further.

The Filters Team

With a whoosh of compressed air (and a gout of flame), Alice leaps over the attacking ‘roaches. She lands a good fifteen feet away, hopping up and down and slapping out the embers that have caught on her singed jumpsuit. Hondo, meanwhile, crushes the last few insects, stomping on two and kicking the others across the room. The filter chamber would stink of ‘roach innards, if such an odor could overpower the reek that is already assailing your nostrils.

The Reactor Team

Frank and Marcus check in a set of nearby lockers, finding two dirty yellow radiation suits. They have tinted visors and black load-bearing harnesses, and the attached boots have black rubber soles. One of the suits is in very good condition, but the other appears to have been repaired with silver duct tape. There is a desk and chair nearby, but other than a 174 year old newspaper and half a pack of smokes, the drawers are empty.

Elsie looks at the suits. She pokes the duct tape with a finger, and then wipes it on her jumpsuit while curling her lip in disgust. "Uhm, yeah. So... anyone for sandwiches?"

Hondo struts a little bit in victory, but then looks at his goo-covered boots and spattered jumpsuit. This makes him sigh.

"Guess I'll get in the trench if one of us has to. Gimme a shovel. But does one of us have to?"

Alice cheered as the Hondo dispatched the last of the oversized vermin, the Red Queen supervising his stomping to make sure none escaped.  The vermin dispatched, she activated the the flashlight on her Pip-Boy and hefted Jenkins before moving cautiously over to the pumps, taking care to not fall into the foul muck. "I think if I reverse the pumps for a little bit it will be a lot easier to scrape the muck out, maybe we can call the others to come down and help?"

(Yeah, I know they're busy, we'll work while time resynchronizes, but will cycling the pumps between forward and reverse loosen the muck enough for the filters to deal with the cause of the blockage?)

"That actually sounds really good, Elsie, don't forget Hondo and Alice.  They'll never forgive us if we have a picnic without them."

Then, with a grin, he hands the good suit to Franklin.

"I got the last one, this one is yours.  I'll put on the patched suit, but I'd rather not go in there with it unless there is something you need help with in there.  Besides, I never did get a chance to finish my coffee earlier."

With the last statement, he frowns down at his now-cold coffee and mumbles something about being "better late than never".
