Coat of Levitation
Why walk when you don't have to?
Item: Ornate longcoat (-5 Blend checks)
Essence: Feat ("Floater": grants flight speed equal to ground speed, 20 ft ceiling), Lesser NPC quality (Superior jumper II)
Reputation Value: 16

I like it, but to achieve the result you are looking for (manageable cost) you're going to need to flag the base item as armor. Basically that will keep it from being worn with armor, and make it fun to use with Armor B/M/S feats Smiley.

Item: Ornate longcoat (-5 Blend checks, counts as partial armor)

No, it's what the item prevents you from doing. The coat doesn't prevent you from benefiting from armor, so it's not armor. Similarly, a ring is most assuredly not a one handed item. Why? Because you can still use the hand while wearing the ring.

To get the armor discount, it needs to be armor. To get the one handed discount it needs to be held in the hand, preventing use of that hand for something else.

I think it would be easy enough to justify that a tailored coat could NOT be worn with armor - it just needs to be flagged as such.

Depending on how ornate the longcoat is, I can see it counting as Padded Armor. After all, padded armor is basically just a thick coat anyway, right?

One of my prized possession for a long time was a WWII army greatcoat I found for about $12 as a Goodwill store.

I would classify it as armor Grin.

Oddly enough I used to own a WWII RAF greatcoat. It once stopped a swipe from a knife during a mugging. I have no doubt in my mind that had it been a thrust, I would be dead, but since it was a slash, it didn't even cut it...

Disco collars and shoulderpads? I tend to use light fittings to represent the extra protection afforded by a long coat to the legs

Doesn't leg protection indicate moderate armor, rather than fittings?

I once got to see a German WWII greatcoat made from elephant hide. I didn't get to try it on, but the thing was so heavy I wouldn't be surprised if it could stop a knife.

Looks good (although remember to scale Rep with Feather Fall/day).  For a similar idea (even more ropily presented as regards scaling), please see my Leaping Lothario's Skyboots.

it's a 0 level spell. 0 x uses is still 0, according to the formula.

Those old 3.X items had some pretty wonky effects on them, but I always enjoyed looking at the creation listings on the bottom to see what spells went into the making of them.

So my understanding is that if you want a unique effect on an Item, just attach spell effects that create a theme. For curse Items, I would consider using that line under Curse liberally "Alternately, you may invent a curse of your own, though it requires GM approval and shouldn’t be any more powerful than these options. This spell may not be countered."

And since YOU are the GM you just have to give yourself approval   Cheesy
