The Push website has launched. It's a pretty slick set-up.

I especially like how the movie's got slang terms for the iconic psychic powers ("sniffers," "stitchers," etc.). I may appropriate that in some form for the SFA - excuse me, SA - relaunch. (A very tiny preview there for ya!) Wink

It looks very cool.

When I went and saw Gran Torino yesterday, they previewed both State of Play, which looks awesome, and Watchmen, the latest trailer. The Watchmen trailer did have both the WB and Paramount logos on it though so maybe that was a small giving point in the process of negotiation.

Fox is the litigant, actually, and that deal's not closed yet. Rumor has it they're close, though.

::crosses fingers:: (both that the movie comes out on time and that...)

Just got back from seeing The Unborn. Best horror movie I've seen in a good long while: great plot; good pacing; several genuine intellectual and emotional scares (as opposed to the shock and awe crap most films pile on); liberal use of Mythos themes; not one, not two, but three grade A hotties; and one of the best serious death lines I've heard in years. Oh, and tentacles.  Grin

David Goyer's on a roll this last year. Go give him money.

David Goyer's on a roll this last year. Go give him money.

Goyer's been on my crap list since "Batman Begins" when in an obvious attempt to rip off QT does the whole who-you-are-is-the-hero-your-real-face-is-your-disguise meme. To make it worse the line is given to Katie Holmes in comparison David Carradine in "Kill Bill."

When I heard the line in the theater I muttered a little too loud "WTF"... it ruined the duration of the movie for me.

Goyer's attempt to establish that Batman and Superman are cut from the same cloth is a gross mistake.

However, I do love the Blade Triology and "Threshold" so I have to give him some props...

Just got back from seeing Slumdog Millionaire and it's every bit the awesome that's advertised. Go. Enjoy the Danny Boyle goodness.

I'm watching Sky Captain for the first time since its cinematic release -- and I've realised I'd forgotten just how much I disliked Polly Perkins. To the point that even though it's an enjoyable story her presence in it still makes me reluctant to actually spend money on buying the DVD

After the Golden Globes, it looks like The Wrestler may be in for a good time at the Oscars. On top of that, it was picked 'Raddest movie of 2008' by The Totally Rad Show.

Considering that my girlfriend enjoys watching the WWE wrestling, I thought I'd check out when it was coming out here. You know when it's being released in New Zealand?

It isn't. (At least not until sometime in March, or even later.)

There isn't even a release date on IMDb, which usually knows such things.

Gah!

And people wonder why we download movies in this country.

Went and saw Defiance yesterday. ... Ed Zwick is a master storyteller. However, he drags out parts of it slowing it down. While I can see the intent to increase the dreariness, it should not have been touted as an action film but more as a drama than anything. This is still a good movie and people should see it to understand what happened.

I was also distracted by some kid texting during the course of the film about once every 15 minutes. So consider that part of my disenjoyment.

I went to see The Spirit with my gf on the weekend. Desite all the changes from the original material (which I'll admit I'm not too familier with) it was still a very enjoyable film. My gf is a big fan of noir, so liked that aspect especially, and neither of us thought that the effects were too overdone. In fact, the movie almost seemed like a play which had been adapted into a movie, with the stark black/white seqences serving as transitions between scenes.

Oh, and the first fight scene between The Spirit and the Octopus was hilarious! Oh, and Scarlett Johansen's outfits are great, too. Mmm...

For those who are interested, you can get a Comic-Con sneak peek of the trailer for The Wolfman here. Looks good.

Has anyone else here ever seen the old 1955 movie A Kid for Two Farthings? It's make an interesting double with Bridge to Terabitha.

In other news, Jackie Chan looking likely to take on the role of Mr Miyagi in the remake  of Karate Kid intended as a vehicle for Jaden (son of Will) Smith.

Yeah, I saw that Karate Kid news and right after it the news of Ralph Macchio slamming the idea of a remake. He brought up three interesting points: remakes of classic films are stupid, how is the love story aspect of the original going to be handled, and only Pat Morita should be remembered as Mr. Miyagi.

It's been brought up in other forums... they're going to get a guy that knows Kung-fu to be the teacher in a movie called "The Karate Kid."

The studio must have really low expectations of audience not to pick that aspect up.

I have no problem if they want to continue the story with new actors and even a new martial art. I enjoyed the whole series. Heck, I even liked "The Next Karate Kid"... Who would have thought that Swank would have gone on to win two Oscars?

Remakes aren't inherently bad, but the current glut of them is really a terrible sign of the derth of creativity in Hollywood these days.

The love story will be amongst the parts of the franchise that aren't getting picked over by Smith's lackeys.

But utter and absolute motto on that third point.

Rumor has it they want Jackie Chan to play Miyagi in the remake. ... I like Jackie,  really do, but he needs to leave this one alone and let Pat Morita's most well-known role alone.
