If - IF - I were to comment on guns in SC3/10kB, and I'm not officially, I would say you'd be far more likely to see a less exhaustive collection of real world guns focusing on the most iconic choices in the core releases, with the Gear & Gadgets book doing the heavy lifting for the cornucopia of weapons and equipment others may seek.

Just wait for several months down the road when people start hounding you over how you lied about how weapons would be handled.

That sounds the most reasonable, especially if they are detailed as in 2.0. A less exhaustive collection that does not require to be expanded but can be through an additional tome is basically what was done in 1.0 with the MAG and that's fine.

So we are talking the M.A.G. for 3.0, basically.

Something like that. More guns and gear than will be in the main book (duh, it's a gear book after all!), plus the eponymous gadgets. Too early to comment further though.

Deathbus appearance was inspired by the fact that the M.A.G. was well received, and, if I recall correctly, something of a nightmare for the writers.

Crafty_Pat and Crafty_Alex:

I have mixed feelings about SC 3.0:

Let me start by first saying that I have read Fantasy Craft and love it for Fantasy.  I would not use it for espionage.  I love SC 2.0 for a variety of reasons:  The Gear system does exactly what you and I wanted it to do.  Remove the long hours spent by characters choosing equipment.  Does it need some work?   Oh surely it does.  However the framework is solid.  The multitude of settings it supports from comedy to wire-fu from horror to Espionage are complete awesomeness.  The fluid initiative, although it took some getting used to turned into something I really liked.  I even loved the Character Classes; the multi-class rules rocked the Expert and Master Classes were great as was the feat system.

Do all of these things need some help?  Oh sure they do but the framework works real well for the settings they were designed for.  Would I use the system for Fantasy?  No way and that is the other thing I love about SC 2.0.

I know you have stated that you do not support generics and that is cool.  However there are some firearms that come with barrel changeouts for .38 to .44.  Are you planning on makeing that kind of thing an upgrade or not.

The other concern I have is the non-convertability of 2.0 material to 3.0 material.

Finally I have not seen a list of the things you plan on changing so I am only able to adress my concerns based on what I love about 2.0.

I will assuredly purchase 3.0 however if too many things are changed: Gear, Feats, Fluid Initiative, Classes (Standard, Expert, Master and Multi) then I might not play the system.  Sad

Good luck and may your company see many great years.

I'm feeling bold.  Evil

I will assuredly purchase 3.0 however if too many things are changed: Gear,

With SC3 and 10KB coming out relatively close to each other, it's theoretically possible that SC3 will incude the "Picks" system while the "Forge" system is saved for 10KB.  The previous was personal conjecture.

Quote
Feats,

Yep, I'm pretty sure we're still using feats.

Quote
Fluid Initiative,

Future remains hazy.  It was sacrificed to The Alter of Simplification for FC, but it's still iconic to the system.

Quote
Classes (Standard, Expert, Master and Multi)

The class systems of Spycraft 2.0 and FC are absolutely identical.  This is a baseless fear.

Doublebond no one is lying here and what you wrote was completely uncalled for. Weapons will be handled as Alex said.

Now, according to my NDA I'm not allowed to tell you what I'm doing right now without permission.  Smiley
And I really don't want to bash heads with Pat and Alex over being loose-lipped.
But do not confuse the MAG and the G&G. The former is a pale shadow compared to the latter.

This is not an upgrade, it's a quality. BTW cool thing that you asked.

It was, yes ( ::shiver:: ), but here's one thing that's changed - we won't be writing the core book and the gear guide in a simultaneous six month period.

Aragathor/Number Three:

What I do know is that the system for SC 2.0 was real refreshing as compared to some of the modern rulesets out there.  Having read and not played the MC system I can only go on what I read of MC and add it to what I have played in the SC 2.0 system.  I do not feel that my concerns about classes are totally baseless but ultimately the decision falls upon the writers of the system as far as what is changed.  Like I said I will purchase the 3.0 ruleset as I did with WoF but my fears are still there and based on what is changed I may stick with SC 2.0.  This being said however I know that a lot of the stuff will be cool in 3.0 it is just a matter of whether or not I will use it over 2.0.

You misinterpreted my jab at Crafty Games' fanbase as a jab at Alex. I'm quite certain you guys know what you're doing and I understand why you have to be so tight lipped. If you discussed every single thing you were considering putting in the book this soon before release fans would get a horribly twisted view of the final product. Really, I'd be rather concerned if there weren't any revisions. The first try is never your best.

I wouldn't worry that they'll be carbon copies (Spycraft Third and 10kB won't be carbon copies and they're set in the same time period!). Fully compatible? Yes. Identical? No.
