Ok, so I read the errata, which drew my attention to something on skills I had never read and then I was more confused.

First Printing errata makes the text on p 64 (Multi-class character) say the following for skills "Further, once a skill becomes a "class skill" for the character, it remains a class skill for the rest of his career. These points are spent 1:1 on class skills and 2:1 on cross-classd skills as determined by the class granting the skill points."

Does that mean that you can't spend any points in a skill that none of your classes list as class skills?

Does that mean that if I am a class that grants a skill, then take a level of a class that does not grant the skill, I can spend points on the skill, but at 2:1? Or is it 1:1 because it is still a class skill?

Thanks,

No, class skills are class skills only while you're taking levels in that class, unless the character option explicitly says that a skill is always a class skill for you. At any level-up, you can spend 1 skill point to gain 1 rank with your current class skills, or 2 skill points to gain 1 rank with your current cross-class skills.

Does that clear things up?

You have old errata, that's the problem. The section in question should read:

Quote
THE MULTI-CLASS CHARACTER
Skills (page 64): The last sentence of this paragraph should read: “These points are spent 1:1 on class skills and 2:1 on cross-classed skills as determined by the class granting the skill points.”

The class you level up in that grants the skill points determines what is a 'class skill' and cross-class skill.'

Thanks to both of you!

I had the right errata, but mistook it as an additional final sentence, not a change. Now it makes sense!
