Does anyone know about what era the guns in FC roughly replicate?  I'm more specifically wondering if they're mechanics make them good enough to be Nepolionic guns.

Eh, probably close enough.

There was some discussion about this a few years back.

Semi-pseudo-sorta.... Roughly 'good enough' into the 18th century, not really good enough for the mid 19th.

Part of the reason I have not converted my Steampunk game to FC - the Colt Naval Revolver is a better fit than a flintlock, percussion caps are in common use, and the mini ball has replaced round shot.

The Auld Grump, not to mention fanning the pistols....

So what century are they best for?

Renaissance era (age of reason) - so probably all the way up to the end of the American Revolution (I decided to have the Brown Bess act as the model for the top-end of the gun spectrum).

Okay, thanks.  This stuff is good to know when you want to replicate the look of a period but don't really know much about it.

So then they cover the Napoleonic period, other then the Baker rifle (the long rifle of the time is the Pennsylvannia Long Rifle). If you need the Baker add spike and shave some weight, and maybe decrease the range increment by a little.

One of the times that I have wanted to strangle a player - I was mentioning the Colt Peacemaker revolver and he complained that he was interested in Victorian era weapons, not Wild West.... It had somehow escaped his notice that the Wild West was the Victorian era, just on a different continent.... That in fact a couple of decades had passed and weapons had continued improving since those days....  Shocked  Roll Eyes

The Auld Grump, and that was the end of the black powder smoke,
And the stand in the street at the turn of a joke....

Headslam.

The period we think of as "the Wild West" or "the Old West" can run anywhere from the mid 1800's (the "Great American Expansion" kicked off in the 1840's, the Gold Rush was around 1850) to around 1910.

The "Victorian Era" comprised the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to her death in 1901.

I suggest you use piano wire.

This is probably why, in most any Victorian game I'm in, I wanna play a cowboy.  Wink

The real question is what time period would you not want to play a cowboy in?  Grin

Any time before the invention of the gun might hamper the cowboy's style just a little Tongue

Although, a hand crossbow version of Van Helsing's weapon might work in a pinch.
