I'd say the Chrysler Building or 40 Wall Stree are even more striking.

The GE Building (or the RCA Building in the 1950s) is not quite as recognizable as part of the skyline, but it's the home of NBC, so should be important in the Gotham Wastes.

Other important skyscrapers from the times in question include the American International Building and the Woolworth Building.

While I don't have as much knowledge about the ol' Big Apple, I do have a question and a crazy idea to voice.

The question: Any idea what the Vault's shticks will be?

The crazy idea: Taxi drivers.  Yes, I saw the part about "streets mostly blocked by rubble", but when has that stopped some taxi drivers out there?  Tongue
Actually, they could have set ramps up, turned the whole city into a 50s theme Burnout course.
"We'll get you there safely and in one piece.  Just bring enough caps and a barf bag."
You could even set it up as a random hazard for those working their way between buildings.
"In Ny City, we take look both ways before crossing the street to heart."
Oh!  For an extra kicker, make most drivers Ghouls!  That would be a kicker to anyone hailing one for the first time.

Remembering the ritual the elder taught you, you raise your hand and shout the code-phrase.  A yellow armored car flies out of the third story window of a nearby building, landing with a small bounce before fishtailing around to come to rest before you.  Out of the driver's seat window, a horribly scarred face pokes itself out.
"Yo, where ya headin'?"

I won't argue with that, especially in regards to the Chrysler Building. Smiley

What, give up the cab, just 'cause the woild ended? You know how long it took to get dis medallion?!

I like the idea of Ghoul taxi drivers, still plying their trade.

In regards to Coney Island - look up Coney Island Creepshow by Beat Circus. Macabre, loud, and lots of fun. (I would link to the song on You Tube, but it has gone away.)

The Auld Grump, back in the day (well, the 1930s), taxis in New York were engaged in a semi-shooting war with each other, complete with crudely armored cabs and eventually led to one of the biggest strikes in history - this is what lead to the current medallion system.

I like the taxi cab idea.
Armored cabs are even better. Maybe they even have M113s painted yellow and sporting taxi signs.

Empire State Building: It definitely has a Behemoth that likes to climb on its exterior.

So this question is a bit of a tangent for this thread, but I don't want to start a new thread and I don't want to raise one of the really dead threads.

Anyhoo, I've been playing Fallout 3 again, shortly to add Broken Steel, we'll see about other stuff, and have noticed something that I don't think any tabletop game replicates:  The ridiculously massive sneak attack headshot crit damage.  Seriously, one sniper shot took a Super Mutant Brute to pieces.  (I've got the Bloody Mess perk, so he really did go to pieces.)

Is there some way to simulate folk that have high damage saves and at least one rank of tough going down in one shot under certain circumstances?

(And if this is worthy of its own thread, I humbly request that is be moved.)

I've been playing fallout 3 again, prepping for a Fallout: Vegas spycraft campaign, and had some similiar thoughts.

Check: the Headshot trick, from the feat In the Well, in World on Fire.

Also, the game seems to have a dnd-esque critical system, where damage is doubled on a crit.  I'm not at my books, but I remember a mate of mine had a sniper that had a like 12+ threat, which is pretty comprable, and the crit is death usually.  You could also make some of the more meaty perks into feats [I'm considering turning all the low level skill perks into basic skill feats].

Just spitballing [might need beefing up]:

Bloody Mess
Your enemies go to pieces...
Pre-Requisites: Career Level 6+
Benefits: Anytime you force a damage save on a standard NPC, they fail an additional damage save per 10 points they fail by.  Further any time you inflict Lethal Damage, the damage inflicted increases by 2.

I find myself wondering: How are you guys who are running a Fallout based / inspired game doing gear?  For the game I'm planning, the players will start out as "agents" of the vault, but might choose / get forced to go out and become a mob of lone wanderers.

Also have you guys specifically made lasers?  Anyone want to share?  Or any other wastelands gear for that matter.  I checked the wiki, but the stuff in there is a bit old, just wondering if anyone had new stuff.

Laser I think you just hit up Spycraft's laser damage.  It doesn't do a lot of damage vs pistols, but it cuts through almost every kind of armor like it's not there.  Plasma ended up being super hot fire.

How's this shaping up? I have a strange urge to steal those ghoul cab drivers for some N.Y. fun. Smiley

Do you think that a couple hundred years after the cabbie exchange programs ends that the cabbies will have ended up at home or learned the local language?

One thing I found funny was the people in Fallout 3 who were after the Naughty Nighty. Imagine what would happen Yankee fans create cults. Going around collecting paraphernalia.

Northern New Jersey is very Yankee heavy. There are about four malls on route 17.

Watch out for the Pitt. Even though NYC is relatively far away from Pitt, slavers from the Pitt went to the Capital wasteland to get more slaves. It wouldn't be a far stretch to say that slavers are in there.

I'm really digging all of this and may have to co-opt some of it for my D-Gate game when it starts back up.

Ok - so when my current Middle Earth PbP finishes, who wants a Fallout: New York PbP?
