Saw Tron Legacy with some friends last night.  I think it's a great film.

I'm still not sure how I feel about 3D:  Should it be a subtle raising depth, or should things be popping out of the screen on a regular basis?  (I'm leaning more towards the latter, to the 3D being very unsubtle wanted stuff to pop out more.  YMMV.)

Did my Jeff Bridges double feature on Thursday with "True Grit" and "Tron Legacy". Both were good, but Tron was better of the two, I thought.

...and speaking of movie music, my incredible drive home from Christmas dinner was enhanced not a little by KROQ kickin' me down with the very best thing to come out of Transformers 2. Almost made me want to pick a direction and drive 'til morning. But I didn't - because I have s**t to do tomorrow, including a not insignificant step forward with a major new Crafty release. Wink

If something not 100% new, then I'm thinking 10KB or Spellbound.

If completely new, you better strap on the tinfoil hat.

Also... If anyone wants to know what my step-dad sounds like on a daily basis... Bridges emulated my step-dad's voice and speech patterns for the Rooster role in "True Grit". (Well, that's what it seems like.)

Couldn't they hire people who haven't played any number of non-teen roles to play teens?

I wasn't really impressed with the 3D in the local IMAX. Actually, the preview for the National Geographic movie had more impressive 3D than most of the Tron did! I was expecting a lot since I had heard they had done the movie with the 3D in mind.
The sound, on the other hand, was very nice. The deep bass was killer.
Effects pretty slick.
Story was OK.

Saw Salt at a friend's house last night. Was pretty decent for what it was.

Also watched Predators. Better than I was expecting (not saying much). The close combat with the sniper rifle (yes, while using the scope) was driving me nuts but really that was about it.

I went to see Tron yesterday with my dad and kid 3, and in IMAX 3D. Typhon is dead on about the best 3D being in the preview. The rest of his review is also dead on. He captures my thoughts nicely.

I'm just back from seeing Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  The 3D was nicely done and quite subtle.  If you haven't read the books, there will be some "dude, whaaaat?" moments.

In other news, I am starting to codify my opinions on 3D in films.  It is one of the things that will get me to see a movie in a theater, since it is a capability I lack at home.  I am trying to decide how I feel about "subtle" vs "popping way out" [PWO] 3D.  The subtle is nice for calmer moments, but in the scenes with Dramatic Conflicts, I always feel like the 3D should have been turned up.

While I am crazy, is it possible that others share this view?

I saw Tron on a 3D IMAX screen a couple of days ago. I really enjoyed it, but the 3D didn't feel as immersive as it has in other movies. Part of the problem might have been how dark a lot of scenes were, but it's hard to say for sure.

One thing that bugged me was CLU's face. If they'd given all of the same 'programs' the full digital treatment it might have looked better, or at least more appropriate.

Well, one thing the game makes explicit is that CLU2 is based on a copy of Flynn's 'code' so he's fundmentally different from the Basics or ISOs. It probably wasn't an intended effect, but it might make some happier. The question is, did Tron look just as off to you? Although that may also just be that Boxlighter's aged better the Bridges.

I can understand that angle, though I didn't get a good enough look at TRON to be able to make a comparison. Maybe that's something that will be better explained in the TV show.

The comic, which takes place before the game, might help too. The TV show takes place, from what I can see, after the game. What will be interesting in the TV show is:
