What a gorram mess. It's just a matter of time before Disney/Marvel pull the reins and start bringing all the properties under one banner.

Disney/Marvel already bought back the film rights to Iron Man and the Avengers from Paramount, but Paramount still gets distribution rights.

Actually, I kinda thought the point was that Middle Earth was racist because (a) it represents the ideal of England before empire, and (b) draws a good chunk of its mythology from the decidedly caucasian Scandanavia

Now you've lost me. Representing (or coming from) an ethnically non-diverse society automatically makes you racist? It's not our fault that it's -23c out here and no sane person wants to come here! Tongue

Edit:

I should probably rephrase my "official statement": If somebody claimed that Tolkien is racist, because all the "easterners" and "southrons" are aligned with Mordor, I'd wholly agree. If somebody claims that Tolkien is racist because a (culturally) isolated northern society is monoethnic, I disagree.

You could even go so far to so far as to say that the Eagles are the American Army Air Corps. They would not become the US Air Force until 1947-'48.

Even then, it would only be true that all of the featured easterners and southrons are aligned with Mordor. There could possibly be entire nations in those regions that did not swear fealty to Sauron just as there were those born in the West who did.

Calling Tolkien and the Middle Earth works are racist is even sillier then claiming that Samuel Clemens and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are racist.

I've always thought that since Tolkein bore witness to the US Army Air Corps that he'd represented them as the Eagles.
