Red is all kinds of awesome. It's equal parts Payback, Leverage, and Going in Style with a napalm chaser. Catch it while it's still in the cinema.

The wife and I should have seen that instead of "Hereafter".

It would have been better if Matt Damon had developed amnesia and proceeded to kick ass.

Got to see Superman/Batman Apocalypse at a local con on the weekend. There was some good voice acting, but the story was a little weak and the title is pretty misleading (it isn't just Batman and Superman). The final fight between Darkseid, Superman and Supergirl got scarily close to Dragonball Z at times, too.

Also, can well all just agree from this point forward that Superman never had a pet dog named Krypto. That'd be swell.

Wasn't it revealed later that Trelane was actually part of the Q Continuum.

I hate that movie so much. Rebooting the franchise from the get-go was lazy and insulting, and the plot was silly.

And they killed off Winona Ryder way too early.  Angry

According to the NZ PM, we should expect a decision on the future of The Hobbit near the end of this week.

I didn't mind the reboot approach as much, and my Dad (the lightweight Trekker of the family) quite enjoyed it.

It was actually fairly good. While I recognize the story reason for what happened, tey should have used someone other Winona. She's at most a few years older than Quinto (Spock) but using someone who had been big in their early-mid 20's in the 80s would have worked out just fine like Elizabeth Perkins, Geena Davis, Patricia Clarkson, even Michelle Pfieffer would have worked.

I rather liked it, though I'm admittedly not a strong Trekkie. I like the franchise, and my knowledge of it runs rather deep, but it's more for professional than personal reasons. My favorite series by far is DS9, which I understand most die-hard Trekkies disregard as "not Trek enough," and my favorite movies and series episodes involve them breaking from tradition (excepting Khan, which is glorious).

So, with all that said, I adore the new movie. I think it's flawed in some ways - mainly due to structure and dramatic presentation - but I also firmly believe it's exactly what the franchise needs right now. It preserves the original timeline and simultaneously gives modern audiences new mysteries and new paths to adventure, which - let's face it - the original series pretty much abandoned long ago.
