That said, of course, fuck the NZ actors' union in the face. In the face.

Just to clarify, the NZ actor's union are only up in arms because foreign (Oz and US mostly) unions told them to be. Talk to anyone who has ever worked with PJ and you'll hear that he is great to work for and pays very well.

The fight isn't over yet. There are some Warners execs in the country either now or very soon, and there are plans afoot to show them how much we want the movie made here.

That's not what I read. Where did you read "NZ actor's union are only up in arms because foreign (Oz and US mostly) unions told them to be" in the article?

Basically, NZAE seems to be demanding a (illegal in NZ as I understand) collective contract for the film at the urging of the Aussie actors union and SAG. Despite PJ paying well above scale and normal wage. In essence, the unions in question are trying to use PJs rep as a nice guy to pressure him into breaking the law and to try and unionize film production in NZ using PJs rates as the new scale, destroying the rest of the production industry in the process.

Also apparently, this was done without NZAE consulting it's members, or without any particular need since, again as I understand the story, film production in NZ is generally considered fairly compensated in the first place.

It's worth noting that as far as i can tell, the US Actor's Equity isn't involved.

Kiwis, correct any misunderstandings I have, please.

New Tron: Legacy poster

Look familiar? It should. I've had this one hanging on my wall for 20 years...

First look at what the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier may look like in the Avengers movie: I'm... not impressed.

Also, for anyone who still cares, a new Scream 4 trailer has leaked.

It looks a bit like the crossbreed of a slug and a skateboarding shoe.

I'd be down with a modern retelling of the hobbit set in a ghetto. Like all the Alt-Shakespeare out there, where Julius Caesar is a mafia boss and whatnot.

I guess they could film in Europe...just saying
(UK please?)

I think it's fair to assume that they'll do their utmost to shoot Christopher Lee there, at least. Smiley

I'm sure Eastern Europe still has quite a few places that would work well for Mirkwood... Tongue

True there are lots of undiscovered (In Cinematography) places in all of Europe.
It could work almost anywhere...

You may not have to worry about that helicarrier design. First, "The Avengers" has been moved to the Mouse House and Paramount is no longer attached to it. Second, it was a design from "Iron Man 2" and a lot has happened since then and even more can happen before the movie's release. I'm taking a wait and see approach on this one.

But you're right... that looks bad.

Okay... that's not entirely what I got from reading one article. I took it as PJ has set some new standards in regards to a pay scale... and other people want to see that pay scale on other productions. Thus, they have to enter some sort of collective bargaining agreement, but the studios balked. WETA took the side of the production workers to help them achieve that goal.

I may have to read other articles, though.

Or Maybe Cindy Morgan looks hotter in that suit.
Hot; yet not trashy/nonchalant like how women look in most films like that these days

Yep, that's a mistake on my part. I was getting confused with the blacklist order issed (and recently lifted) by SAG. The head of the Aussie Union is the big bad here. He was quoted earlier this year as saying that he would be using The Hobbit to try and unionise NZ.

PJ was interviewed on NZ tv last night and he said that he felt ambushed by the situation. He got quite emotional about the whole matter, and made it very clear that he wants the movies to be made here. Two Kiwi actors (from the union) were also interviewed and they also wanted the movie to be made here. We've got execs from Warners down here next week, so there's going to be a pretty big effort from much of the country to get them to stay.

As for the helicarrier, couldn't they have just borrowed The Valiant from U.N.I.T., or the one from Sky Captain. Both look a lot better in my eyes.
