You're not wrong about Activision, but I'll still see these movies in 2D, usually a few weeks after they're released.  I just have to wait for Alice in Wonderland to be transfered to normal showings so I can see it.

Am I the only one who is sick of this?  Every 3D movie I've seen so far gives me a headache, and I find that it doesn't look as crisp as 2D.  Not to mention that its $20 for a ticket here, which is rediculous.  Now everything is released in 3D.

If it helps at all, it'll almost certainly be released in 2D as well - there just aren't enough theatres for 3D to be the norm and even if there were they'd be leaving money (from folks like you and me) on the table if they ignored the market.

I actually avoided Avatar in 3D - saw 25 minutes of it in 3D at Comic-Con and there was just too much on the screen for me to enjoy the experience. I suspect I won't be interested in a 3D Alien picture either, though I'd gladly see certain flicks (like maybe Tron: Legacy) in the format.

As long as it's not yet again set on Earth, I'll be happy.

Seeing as they never gave us the Earth movie we wanted - you know, not in this time period - I tend to agree.

I saw Alice in Wonderland tonight....

Is it too much to ask that a screenwriter and a costuming department learn the difference between 1800s and 18th Century? Or learn the right name for the main character? It's Alice Liddell for the love of little fishies! Not Kingsley!  Angry

Good effects, some good acting, but I swear that they went out of their way to screw up the period.

There were some good bits - hints that the
(click to show/hide)
, and Depp's Hatter did have some of the symptoms of mercury poisoning, including a blown pupil.

The Auld Grump, off with their heads!

Actually, it's just Alice. She's supposedly based on Mrs. Hargreaves, but in the books she never had a last name I can recall.

Personally, I found the whole thing rather tame. I was expecting more surreal and unsettling. Don't know why... it is Disney.

My favorite bit of supporting evidence, in regards to Alice Hargreaves nee Liddell is the poem in the back of Looking Glass -
A boat beneath a sunny sky,
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear--

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die.
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?

The initial letter of each line... Kind of hard to refute, though Carroll did try. Tongue (Also, both Alices shared the same birthday.)

I am fond of Carroll, and have even read the 'missing chapter' of Alice, after finding it in Martin Gardner's Annotated Alice. Smiley (Tenniel did not want to illustrate it, and the book needed cutting anyway.... The missing chapter is The Wasp in a Wig.)

The Auld Grump, Carroll was fond of such puzzles.

I should have clarified. Supposedly based (and you'd be a fool to argue otherwise), but Alice in the books has no surname.

I really didn't care for Alice. Despite a great cast and pedigree, most of the re-envisioning was uninspired and the whole affair just felt... lifeless. Plus, no new Tron: Legacy trailer, which was half the reason I was there! Sad

I wonder how the 3-D Dr Who trailer the brits got in front of Alice went?

I enjoyed it, I liked the menace of the armored red cards, and Depp's hatter had a nice edge of scary madness.  And who knew the Hatter was a Scot?

That said, so much could have been different and imo, much cooler.  You know how the dream goes, go with it!  (And on a minor point:  How come no one mentioned the claw marks on her arm are from an animal than from a fall?)

Did anyone accept their Razzie in person this year?

My two favorites were Halle Berry, who accepted with panache and a skewed dignity for her role as Cat Woman (I never appreciated Eartha Kitt more than I did when seeing the previews for that movie...), and Tom Selleck, who actively campaigned for his Razzie. Selleck, as Phillip of Spain?!  Shocked  Roll Eyes (He got the role because he was the biggest name to audition, he accepted because he needed the job.... Tongue )

I feel a certain measure of respect for those who have accepted their Razzies with good grace.

Well, at least she got the Oscar for a different movie. Tongue

Crying shame about District 9, though.
