This pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter, too.

First shot on-set for the prequel to Carpenter's The Thing.

It's filming in Toronto. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton are in the lead roles, and the whole thing has Carpenter's blessing. This has me very excited indeed!

Here's an interview with Edgerton.

Squee!!! (and you won't see me do that very often...)

Batman 3 News: Title, who the villain isn't, that it won't be in 3D (yay) but that it will be shot in IMAX (double-yay), and a bit more

James Cameron not doing Cleopatra next, but rather Avatar 2 and 3: Sigh. I'll never get that big-screen version of Battle Angel Alita.

Speaking of Cameron, here's a trailer for his latest: Sanctum.

Lookin' pretty good... I rather liked the video game from a few years back. This looks like it might be tapping into the same mindset.

I've been reading up on spoilers for Ridley Scott's Alien prequel. These are confirmed plot elements, btw.

It's a shame we're not getting The Riddler, but there are still quite a few alternatives.

(I can see Catwoman, Harley Quinn, The Mad Hatter, The Penguin, and Talia al Ghul as the top contenders)

Eh, the Alien prequel remains on my "maybe want", and hasn't really moved from there since it was announced.

Actually, my guess would be Black Mask, as he's pretty much the top operator of Batman's B-list rogues and moving through the social front organisations to find out who is behind the mask would be a good use of the Bruce Wayne persona.

Given the Nolans' past handling of female characters I'd be really leary of them doing anything with Selina, but with Rachel gone I think you have a natural in for Bruce to fall for someone from the Batman's world.

I liked it too and yes it was flawed...
Some major astrophysics mishaps(I know I know... ''its a film'')
But as my father put it(an old trekkie and an engineer) ''Thats the first time I actually felt the Enterprise was there... and I was in it too"
Maybe they needed that lesson from Star Wars yes? (0k don't shoot me  I love both franchises ;p )
Yeah they can go wherever they want with this new universe.Even a whole new tv series

I can forgive (most) matters of physics and realism. This is, after all, the series that brought us some of the most ridiculous sci-fi concepts of all time. But that ice planet sequence - despite giving us not one but two very important moments for a new Star Trek launch (an awesome non-human monster and a fleeing - and therefore very human - Kirk) was otherwise a bit too convenient for me. Seriously? Kirk, OG Spock, and Scotty all suspiciously wind up on the same planet in the twilight of the second act? ::squints:: I see what you're sellin' and I ain't buyin'.

Plus, those Orion slave girls... Wow. Taking a concept and original execution as awesome as that, casting not one but two of the most gorgeous women in Hollywood to portray them, and winding up turning red-blooded American males off... That, that takes talent.

Still, they managed to give us a (mostly) grounded, (generally) engaging, (extremely) fun film with solid characters, great moments, awesome sets, one of the finest trailers ever to hit the cinema, and most importantly of all, a firm footing with modern audiences, so I can forgive the little things. Smiley
It is the ONLY trek film I went with my (then) girlfriend ; and the only scifi she ever thought was good.[though thats not indicative of the films quality because she turned down Blade Runner for crying out loud]
I dunno about the US but in Europe it was a film that did well with: mainstream/female (non-geek) audience
and its the only time I care about that because -maybe- it means funding more films/series and something even better might come of it in the future.
Also: +1 on all your points Wink

Forgive me If I said it before somewhere here but minus the boy scout and Metropolis/superpower elements, ''Hush'' almost works as sequel to the Nolan-verse film..And it taps really well into the love/hate relationship with Selina(its in this story were she learns who the Batman is for the first time). But I'm up for either the black mask or Hugo Strange too

And there's that movies one redeeming feature - Rachel Nichols in her undercrackers. Even if she was green.

Have yet to see the deleted scenes for Star Trek so I cannot really say anything.

I liked Nolan's responses too. ... Sanctum looks fairly awesome too!

Myself I would like to see a new take with the penguin. Not the strange Tim Burton, one, but a new take on him. Make Cobblepot a legitimate, but ruthless and genius business man on the surface, who is going after Wayne Enterprises in a hostile takeover, but beneath the surface he's the info broker and arms dealer that we know from the comics. The Penguin alter ego would have a good second tier heavy as his Lt., maybe some one like Deadshot, or Deathstroke to "keep his hands clean". So in essence you have two stories going on one involving Bruce Wayne fending off an attack on his company kind of like a business movie, and the second Batman going against the penguin second involving arms dealing and information selling, until the two threads tie together at the end of the movie. I think this could be a fantastic movie, but that's my thinking. Plus you rehabilitate the Penguin from disaster that was the Tim Burton one, and make him into an interesting foil for Bruce Wayne on a business front, and for Batman as well for the crime angle.

Batman villain for the new movie should be Scarface.

With Al Pacino voicing Scarface.

Still keeps with the gang... mobster motif.

You could also introduce another Joker or simply The Red Hood, who tries to take up his predecessor's exploits.

Poison Ivy could still work by making her abilities less supernatural... she could work with Cobblepot as he tries his corporate takeovers as a femme fatale to leverage the votes Cobblepot needs to take over a company.

No way they are bringing another Joker in, but I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow use him as a starting point. And that would qualify Harley Quinn, too, I believe...
