I was hesitant to watch mainly because Benicio Del Toro cannot be believable as a Brit

I actually fell asleep in the middle of Wolfman, so bored was I while watching it.

This. It's among the top three reasons I can't in good conscience recommend this flick. Maybe as a rental, when you can view scenes one at at time over a few days...

The worst part was that I saw it with a male friend, so I couldn't even focus my attention on my date. In fact, I found myself thinking precisely this several times during the movie. Tongue

I am provisionally excited just based on those visuals -- a combination of pretty people (who will be beating the crap out of each other) and reasonably faithful key character design

Yeah. I could recognize all of the characters and there was even a bit of relevant ethnic diveristy in the casting. Given the visual lexicon of live action mixed martial arts to tell the make-up artists what to do, this has some potential. The plot is gonna be terrible, but terrible plot is sort of a given in these things. Tekken has a shade more story than some of the fighting game franchises, but once you get the number of characters up that high even the love-dodecahedron model starts to break down Wink.

Am I the only person who cringes every time they do one of these movies?

Only because of the natural expectation is the words "video game movie" will be followed by the words "directed by Ewe Bole"

I try to take them on a case-by-case basis. Sure, Street Fighter was terrible, but they managed to slip some funny moments in there. Mortal Kombat was actually pretty good despite some odd casting choices.

I don't know what to think of Tekken yet, but the trailer isn't giving me much hope.

Yeah... it's a crying shame that "Street Fighter" was the final movie of one of the great thespians of the stage and screen, Raúl Juliá.

I still think Brian Blessed would have been a better choice. The man's scaled Everest twice and undergone a Mars mission simulation, pirate shenanigans would be a walk in the park
