This year they're...
surprising in many respects.
- No True Grit but Burlesque got a nod ::shakes head::
- Walking Dead (which, awesome) but no Breaking Bad - granted, there's only so much room on the ballet for one network, but still.
- Piper Perabo? Really? I'm not sayin' I didn't dig Covert Affairs's inaugural season (I did, a lot), but...
really? - The Tourist? Was there a random draw this year?
...and if Alice in Wonderland claims even one of those awards, I may have to grab a rifle and head over to the HFPA HQ for a little cognitive realignment. Because that movie was absolute trash - not mildly bad, mind, but full-bore-scattershot-to-the-logic-center awful.
Still, there's a lot to laud in there (Chris Nolan and Hans Zimmer + Inception, David Fincher, Aaron Sorkin, Trent Reznor and Atticus Russ + the Social Network, Christian Bale in the Fighter, etc.), and some welcome surprises (Red for Best Comedy or Musical, Emma Stone for Easy A, Katey Segal for Sons of Anarchy, etc.), so the reticle's not a full 180 degrees off - just a bit shaky. Let's hope they steady their aim before the envelopes are sealed.
