Anyone else noticed a major speed hit / time lag on the main site and forums?

I have been getting the problem intermittently; sometimes pages will load fine and quickly, and other times it will simply hang for several minutes or not completely load.

Ashes to ashes,

Oh good. I get that periodically but the connection speed in my area is wonky so it's hard for me to tell when it's a site issue. I'll ping Alex and let him know that there's something amiss and we'll see if we can get it sorted.

Gave the server a kick. There's no reason I can see why we should have had a speed hit, so my guess it it was our service provider.

I've been seeing connection timeout to the forum since Oct, but I always thought it was on my end.

Same for me. And even when it works fine, it can be soooooo slow sometimes. But just like haughtyelf, I always thought it was on my end.

I have the same problem. Is the site trying to do something active like run a Java script all the time? That's normally what seems to give me the most problems (curse you, Pandora!)

Again - not the site. It's likely the hosting service. The most recent slowness has absolutely nothing to do with how our site is running.

If this delay is an issue that's causing an annoyance, and you trust the crafty websmiths (do what I'm about to suggest ONLY to sites you trust content and hosting):

In your various Internet Security suites, Adblocking software, etc:

- Add www.crafty-games.com to your trusted sites list.

Your issue should disappear.  If you're using Firefox and ABP, click 'disable on crafty-games.com'.  I just tried it, it worked. I shot some info to Crafty P, but it's more about how their hosted and not the actual web content or the web server.

Once more.. I can't stress this enough.

*DISCLAIMER*  ONLY DO THIS ON SITES YOU 100% TRUST.  The Koala does not make house calls.  ...unless it's the USEC.  ...and he's cranky...

P.S.  Flash is disabled on the Forums, right?

Well, the lagging used to be occasional, but it's been fairly constant for the last month or so. Let's hope it's a sign of success.

There certainly has been more activity of late. Smiley

I suggest you may want to talk with your hosting service then, cause to be honest its getting to the point were I can barely navigate the forums anymore without getting a timeout at some point.  And not just one, but consistently getting them.

Doing a bit of my own checking, watching ping rates at 80ms suddenly jumping to over 2000ms when trying to open up a thread is not a good sign.

I thought it was being tapered [from downloading past my limit] that was causing it, but its a new month [as far as my service provider is concerned], and its still very slow from time to time.
