Hey there!  I'm just getting into spycraft here, trying to learn the ropes, and was wondering if anyone wanted to get a classic espionage-genre Spycraft 2.0 game going.  Being as new as I am, I'd prefer not to GC if someone else is willing (simply because I don't think my grasp of the rules is firm enough without having played it before), but if necessary, I suppose I can try to pull it off.  I just want to get into a good game, and my real-world RPG group consists of just me and my brother, and honestly, I think he'll probably end up backing out after a couple of hours.  He doesn't like anything that requires any amount of patience.  But even if he stays in, one GC and one player doesn't make for a very great game (and pretty much requires a GCPC to be involved).  I live far on the outskirts of a very small town, and it's hard to find other people to play with here, and even if I could find someone else, it would be hard for us to meet to play, considering the nearest house is about a half mile away from mine.

Anyway, all that aside, I would like to get involved in a spycraft game, and as far as I can tell at the moment, it seems finding a good PbP game is my best bet, so if anyone's interested... (And willing to deal with a total newbie, both to Spycraft and PnP RPGs in general, as she tries to learn the ropes... Cheesy)

I'm fairly new as well, so count me in if you can find a couple others.  Grin

Well, I'm not currently geared up to run a PbP, but I hate to see new recruits go without a game. Perhaps I can cobble something together over the weekend. I'd probably want 1 or 2 more players to green light such a thing, though.

Sounds like we have enough interest to get a game going, as long as Psion's still interested in playing GC for us. Cheesy

Maybe too early to talk about this, but I'm gonna start discussing classes... so we can put together a good group.  I'd like to be an intruder, or to a lesser degree, a faceman, but if it fits the team better, I could have a lot of fun with hacker, too.  (Especially since I have a lot of real-world knowledge in that field, being a programmer by profession, which could make my character very believable.)  I'll make my final decision once everyone else has picked their classes.

I was thinking of Lawman, Pointman, or Martial Artist, in that order.

I would be interested in taking a crack at a Wheelman, Soldier, or Scout in that order

I'd be interested, but you seem to have the desired 4 already.
I think I'd prefer either a Hacker, Soldier or Martial Artist, in that order (since everyone else offers 3).

Though I won't be offended if you tell me there's no room.

Well... I'm not the GC here, though I am the one who started this thing... I'm personally not opposed to having five or even more people; I think four was just a minimum we were looking for, not a max.  But I'll leave it to GC discretion.

I'd also like to propose (though the GC can refuse this, as well, of course) a small change to one of the weapons in the core rulebook; namely, the chain whip.  My proposal is that all of its current qualities are left in tact, and the qualities of the bullwhip be added to it.  With this, the chain whip would be moved up one caliber and become a Caliber III weapon.  (Although... if the GC wants to keep it at Caliber II, I won't complain!)  However, because chain whips are traditionally shorter than bullwhips, I would propose the reach bonus be reduced to +5 ft.  I'll go through and explain my reasoning for adding each of the qualities of the bullwhip to the chain whip, though I think they should be fairly obvious (and am quite honestly baffled that they aren't already part of the chain whip... especially since the description of the weapon includes the line "It is wielded much like a whip")

Firstly, I'll show a couple of examples of the chain whip from YouTube so that others can see where I'm coming from:

Double Chain Whip
Chain Whip (Jiujiebian)/Sword (Dao)

FIN, TRO (Finesse, Trained Only): I think anyone who's ever seen a chain whip being used would agree that it is very much a dexterity-based weapon, and not a strength-based one, and that it's DEFINITELY something you don't use without training.  In fact, I've heard many martial artists say that this is the single most difficult weapon in all of martial arts to master, and the single most dangerous to an inexperienced wielder.  The absence of these two qualities is what baffles me the most about this weapon!

HOK (Hook, +2): Not really sure why this isn't on there.  Any flexible weapon should get hook ability, and both the chain and the whip have it, so why would the combination of the two not have it?

TRP (Trip): Also pretty obvious, I would think.

RCH (Reach, +5 ft.): The chain whip may not be as long as the bullwhip, but its extended reach combined with the hook and trip ability were what made it effective in combat.

Additionally, I would make a case that the chain whip should have the DST (Discreet) quality.  It was a very small weapon, favored by assassins in ancient China, and one of the reasons for this was that, when folded up, the entire weapon could be concealed in the palm of your hand.  Thus, it could equally fit inside your shoe, or attached somewhere to your body, and would be almost impossible to detect without a strip search.

Naturally, that change is up to the GC to implement or refuse... but I think, given the nature of the weapon in the real world, adding those qualities would make a lot more sense.

I've just recently jumped into Spycraft. I found Fantasy Craft and fell in love, but I have no one to play with. Undecided
I wanted to post interest in trying an Advocate, Faceman, or Intruder.

Pointman.

Can someone tell me starting level and campaign qualities so that I can get cracking?

Well... I guess that's my call, since I started the thread?  GC can disagree, I suppose, but I was wanting to start at level 1 in the default setting, with no campaign qualities active.

I suppose we could, if you think that would be better... I was just thinking that, for my first game, I wanted the "full experience."  But, if you think it'll be more fun starting at level 3, I'll trust your more experienced opinion.
