If anything, I'd say Astrogation would be a focus under Technology. The way I envision it is that astrogation is really friggin' difficult, like say DC 20 for an easy run. Astrogation computers would act like skill use gadgets in 2.0, with a massive bonus (like +25).

If you wanna make it simple, theres magic items that give a bonus to skills in FC.  However having that one of your limited prizes might be a stretch.

Realistically any Astrogation would be dealt with entirely by computers. If your AstroComp is down, chances are your hyperdrive is down too anyway. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's like calculating superstring theory in your head, but it certainly involves differential calculus among many systems of equations.

I can see the office pool between Alex, Pat and Scott.

"So how long until someone tries to make Master Craft Star Wars?"

"Oh, I give it a month, 2 tops"

"You are both insane, within 2 weeks of the book hitting the streets."

My only question is, who won the bet and how much was it for?  Tongue

Hence the reason to make it its own distinct skill rather than hang it off anything else: it's not like dusting crops.

Alternatively, since people's head seem to asplode at the idea that Astrogation should be a skill, try the following skill pairs.

Techie: MakingTech (Crafting) & UsingTech (Technology).
Traveller: KnowingAboutPeople (Cultures) & ArguingWithThem (Haggle)

Cultures would give you foci that act like Interests (languages and cultural studies) except they don't contribute to Knowledge checks.

How about making it a Complex Check with a high DC and 20 tasks, running off of Science/Mathematics? If you know calculus you can certainly do the math, it just takes a while without a navcomputer or an R2 unit.

My inclination is to call astrogation a Technology check with a pretty high DC, usually done with the assistance of a nav computer, and Astrogation or The Outer Rim could be Studies.

Watching the Tarkovsky Clone Wars, specifically the Battle of Coruscant, it strikes me that instead of spell points you could base Force use off of Edge; the characters are clearly taking time between uses of the Force doing cool stuff to build it up again.

I actually thought something along the same lines, and tried to find a post of Morgs that had a heap of fancy new edge tricks, but it seems to have vanised.  You could make different styles feat chains, and give some mundane benefits "at will" - Telekinesis I at will with the first feat, 5lb telekinesis all the time covers basic use pretty well.  Then have edge spent for heavier objects, lightning, and other trickery.

I'd rewrite Force Sensitive to just grant you an amount of Edge at the beginning of each scene instead of having to drop an AD; the feat's having prerequisites and no mechanism for spending it at this point balance it against the similar Chance feat.

Force Basics/Mastery/Supremacy spin off Force Sensitive, granting all the usual Edge-based goodies with skill rank prerequisites that equate to 1st, 5th & 10th level; Basics will probably also give Force Users the option to take Force feats in lieu of bonus feats granted by class

Try a search for [notebook]. I flag my bigger mechanics post titles that way specifically to make the easier to dig up again Smiley.

*Chuckle* Amusing story about Star Wars and Fantasy Craft. The art on 343 was ordered for a class that basically was going to let you do about 85-90% of all the cool stuff in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Incredible leaps and ranged shoves (wind), concussive explosions (thunder), and lightning (well, lightning Grin).

I did a search but nothing turned up.  It was a bunch of edge tricks inspired by a fighting game of some kind, and a while ago [possible from a previous iteration of the board and it didn't get backed up].

So not this one?

Do you remember anything else about it? I haven't seen the thread wiht the Riftspinner Basics/Mastery/Supremacy, but I can repost at least that chain if you think that's what you are looking for. A lot of the older discussion was in the workbench board which has been closed.
