Anyone interested in playing in a Fantasycraft game? I am eager to try it out since I got the book, but my local group is all busy with other things...

Toliman is a uniquely blended mixture of a dying earth science fiction genre, high fantasy, and sword and sorcery elements, comprising a single campaign setting. Wizards, elves, and fantastical creatures abound. Yet, in this world, almost all of these have a scientific explanation and internal logic, even if such knowledge has long since been lost by its inhabitants.

Toliman itself takes place in a distant future, on an alien world where the mundanely familiar and intrinsic human clash with the wholly alien and sublime. It embraces the nature of a cyclic universe of endless possibilities, where the vast unknown of what has come before, and what will come to pass.

Any takers?

ps: I will try and identify the campaign qualities, but first I want to see if there's enough interest.

I'm intrigued.

You have an idea of what the gameplay is going to be like? Where does it fit in the social/combat/exploration mix? What the environment/society is like? I mean depending on how you go, this sounds like it could be like my "desolate final days of earth" Sword & Sorcery game. Or it could be like final fantasy.

I have to ask, are you using FantasyCraft or Spycraft? I might join if the timing works out.

That would be Fantasycraft, d'oh.

As for the social/combat/exploration ratios... if I had to guess now it would be 40/25/35. I want to be to fairly balanced, but I also know that combat can be a death sentence for a PbP game Tongue

I've been working on a wiki for my world, feel free to look: http://toliman.wetpaint.com/

Its obviously incomplete, but it might give you a better clue as to the world. I will have more specifics on the campaign itself tomorrow... after sleep.

All right. I'm thinking maybe a Scout of some flavor... perhaps Elf with Draconic Heritage? I'll start working on a build once you've given us campaign qualities, level, and any restrictions you want us to keep in mind.

I don't know what level you're looking at but are the new classes allowed? I'd quite like to be a Dwarf Explorer/Monster Hunter (or working towards it at least), with a personal mission to find out what the Dwarves of old woke beneath the mountains and neutralise or slay it.

I'd be quite interested in trying an Infernalist (either Channeler, Mage or Priest). Maybe an Unborn, or a tiefling (Devilish Heritage human) or Fire Elder Ogre.

This does indeed sound rather interesting. I have a liking for interesting campaing settings, so wouldn't mind taking this one for a spin. Heck, I'll even play an Explorer of the Saurian variety (if that's a viable option).

I would also give it a try depending on the speed and requirements for play.

Campaign Info
Starting Level: 1 (This is my first foray into Fantasycraft so I want to start basic)
Posting Expectations: 1/day or every other day.
Sources: I only have access to the Fantasycraft core book, so only things from that are allowed.
Notes: In the humanocentric areas where the campaign will start, humans, dwarves, elves, orcs, and unborn are considered fairly common. All other species are uncommon. Exceptions: There are no Pech in this setting.

The common races likely venerate the mainstream monotheistic religion, which I have pretty well planned out. The uncommon races would have a lot more leeway in designing and coming up with a heresy (ie any other faith). The rules for magic is pretty clearly spelled out below.

Beyond the playable species, you are most likely to face adversaries of the animal and horror types.

(I also put this info up on my wiki with better formatting)
Campaign Qualities
Menace IV (Dangerous)
Threat level -  +2
Dramatic scenes - 2–3
Encounters - Significant to Extreme

Dramatic Pacing (Permanent)
Time bends to meet the needs of the story.

Miracles
Proof of the True God exist, but so do a few daring Heresies.
Indifferent Universe (Permanent)
The divine cannot be used for Narrative Control.

Sorcery
Magic exists and can be manipulated in the form of spells.
Innate Magic (Permanent)
Magic is not something that can be learned without genetic disposition. One is either gifted with the ability through their bloodline, or not. To access anything with the "Sorcery" campaign quality, you need to be Blooded (see below).

Tense
Stress damage is doubled.

Homebrew Materials

Feats
Blooded (Spellcasting feat)
You have potent blood that can master magic. Your blood possesses an uncanny faint golden iridescence and you status in civilized society grows.
Prerequisites:  Level 1 only
Benefits: You gain access to any feats, classes, and character options that require the "Sorcery" campaign quality. You also immediately gain 2 Legend and 1 Lifestyle.

Specialties
Disciple of Sygnoss (Replaces the Cleric Specialty)
-Bonus Feat: Any 1 Chance feat
-Charming: Once per session, you may improve the Disposition of any 1 non-adversary NPC by 5.
-Field Medicine: You are always considered to have a doctor’s bag.
-Pastorate: You may purchase clergy renown for 40 Reputation per Rank
-Turning: Choose a Type from the following list: horror, ooze, spirit, or undead. Once per combat you may Turn characters of this Type.
