Hello Agents,

I am currently in the process of writing the first introductory mission for my players. I let them have lvl 6 characters. There'll be an intruder/sniper, a scientist/inventor and a faceman/illuminatus. (I'm still looking for a fourth player.)

The goal is simple: get some documents from a safe in a criminal underworld lawyer's mansion.  I plan this to be a caliber II mission because the target is in a rich residential area, associated with the criminal underworld and has access to private security services (cameras and men in black patrol the grounds).

My question is this: What is the best way to define objectives in this mission? Should there be more than two scenes?

Bear with me:
The goal is to Acquire a defended object in which the target has a large interest.

To do this, the agents will have to infiltrate, pass a crucial skill check (security or demolitions), and most likely contain/distract (block people from noticing that they are cracking a safe and/or distracting them long enough to escape notice).

My question is, should the XP rewards/objectives be:
1) A simple "Acquire" mission; netting 50-75XP
2) A chain of objectives, such as Infiltrate, Crucial Skill Check (complex task), Distract/Contain (Evade); probably netting 50+75+75(+50) XP

If this were a movie, the protagonists would take a long prep time in order to scout ahead/explore; obtain dossiers or information about security routines; plan out all contingencies and obtain the required ressources to execute their plan (I'm thinking that they could pose as repairmen for plumbing/electricity/computers/office furniture in order to infiltrate the mansion; or they could feign interest in the lawyer's services in order to do a high profile infiltration.) They will probably need some gadgets and/or tool kits to crack the safe; luckily there is a resident Scientist on the team for skill requirements.

After the intel phase, I believe there should be one scene and one optional scene: the infiltrate/obtain scene, and the escape/getaway scene (optional). The second scene would occur if they are noticed and need to GTFO.

So my second question would be: how do I split up the scenes and XP per scene?

Thanks!

Disclaimer: This is what I'd do, it might not work for you.
I'd go with a chain of objectives, potentially with more then 2 scenes.

Scene 1: You said they'd want to stakeout the place, so you can do that with a couple investigate checks, or some blend and search, or whatever suits the needs of the suitation.

Scene 2: Infiltrate, Capture, Evade, Escape.

Scene 3: Chase scene [mainly if folks notice them as they make their escape].

Question 2: I split up scene's as they are in movies, if the location changes, or some time passes between important events I usually call a new scene.
