Like that it's a descendant of the original Phantom. Hate the new costume. Blech!

For a moment, it reminded me of Starman comic book, from Robinson and Harris. "I'm not wearing that..." But while in starman the new look of the charater it showed personal style, and certain respect for the past and the meaning of the hero, here it looks just plan awful...

I have grown up to a point that some superhero costumes to me look just simply absurd and it's obvious at times that people are drawing the pictures to offset some sort of fetish that they may possess or to generate some <ahem> fantasy material. (In the case of the original creator of Wonder Woman that was true).

That said. My thesis is that all superhero costumes would look rather silly or stupid when in television or a motion picture. I kinda like the new Phantom costume, in the few snapshots of the clip that I saw it looked like something someone would put together in some sort of actual reality.

I heard a costume designer years ago (when talking about the Flash TV series) say that spandex is the worse kind of material for a costume. It makes everyone look flat. "I could put Arnold Schwarzenegger (when he was buff) in spandex and he'll look like a flat piece of wood."

Not looking forward to the new Phantom but I'll probably check out Alice just for Tim Curry & Kathy Bates. No guarantee they won't be able to save it.

As to SGU, overall I liked it. I did so by reminding myself it was a new beginning for a show. Andy Mikita, the director, has helmed large numbers of episodes for both SG-1 & SG:A so i was willing to trust him. There really is an opportunity to dazzle over the next few episodes that should not be wasted.

The stones ... necessary but, if there is one, should not last into the 2nd season.

Lou Diamond Phillips ... underutilized, underutilized, underutilized
Christopher McDonald played the forthright Senator who believed enough in what was going on to sacrifice himself. The great character actor he is provided the Senator with a willingness to prove they need to rely on each other.

Ming Na as the IOC rep might be interesting. I liked Chloe not just because she was attractive but she was unknown enough as an actress for me to suspend disbelief easier which made her performance more palpable.

David Blue (aka Eli) is an enormous fan of the franchise & according to the producers kept them on their toes with clarifications they forgot to include. Eli is the closest everyman to the audience, hence his attire, wit, observations, etc. He'll be the audience's voice more than anyone.

Rush, to me, is the potential first season villain. He wants to be in charge, gets his genius overshadowed by Eli, and says he already "talked to the SGC" but I still don't trust him.

Keep in mind the power struggle that will exist between Rush, the military, and Ming Na's IOC representative. Yes, I want a kino too.

The stones ... necessary

Depends on the payoff IMO.

I think maybe I've been writing World on Fire too long. I kinda assumed we'd see at least one "He's a politician. Of course he goes first!" comments in there. Wink

Watched trailers for Stargate Universe at ComicCon and all I could think was "Space 1999... again."

Crap... I have the first episode on my DVR and was wondering if I should watch it or just spare myself. I was going to watch it last night, but opt out to viewing "It's Always Sunny..." instead.

This is better than Space 1999. I'd watch your DVR just so you can judge for yourself

Saw the first 2 eps back to back.

The stones are a stupid pointless plot device, and so was the video game. Also, I found every character to be irritating as hell. I'll watch eps 3 and 4 but if it's more of the same shit then i'm out.

I mean, in the first episode nothing happened.

I think the first two episodes were meant to be shown as a two-parter for that very reason. It allows the producers to start the show off with a big story instead of trying to wrap things up in 40 minutes.

Not at all. About 10 minutes in I said to the person next to me "Is it just me, or does Rush remind you of a Dr. Smith kinda guy?"

It can't have been as bad as the turgid mess that was John Woo's pilot for a Lost in Space series.

You got a link for that, or are you going to make my curiosity google for it?  Wink

Here

Let me reiterate that the Time Tunnel pilot also linked to there is awesome and everything you want in a pilot episode.
