Just wondering where I should be poking for those rules.  I grabbed Darkest Hour to run for my group tomorrow, and figure I will go with the fun of the random loot rolls for the adventure.  In case something is magical was just wondering where the ID magic rules were.  I would take more time, but I think I also need to make characters for everyone to play with so that way we can focus on that game and afterwards making real characters.

As an aside, I have very much enjoyed reading the Darkest Hour mod, and hope that I can live up to it as a GC for my group tomorrow.  It has made me laugh, and given me some very cool images in my mind while reading it.  I especially like the formatting in it, and hope that during play I find it as well designed as I have while reading it.

Happy gaming.

The first level spell Identify is the go-to for identifying magic items. Note that depending on how you want the flow of the game to go, you may need to adjust it's casting time...

For non-casters, the Investigate skill is used.  Magic items take longer to identify than mundane items.  Identify is far superior in this respect if the items Reputation cost is higher than 8, otherwise Investigate is actually faster, and only takes Item Complexity minutes for mundane items.

It's a little nerve-wracking to be the guy who writes the "first" adventure, so it relieves me significantly that it's at least easy to read and understand.  Smiley

Remind me to read the skill descriptions more carefully, I totally missed this use of Investigate...

I'm glad there's a mundane alternative to Identify spells.  I remember that it used to be a must-have spell for Wizards in 3.x, and had a pretty hefty material component cost.  In this game it actually has a preparation cost of 1 Reputation, and Identify II has preparation cost of 3.  Over the course of a career, the Investigate skill can save you a lot of resources.

I was going to run a PfRPG campaign after we finished our 4E campaign, but I am now going to go to FC. Such a flexible system and I will DM time to create the campaign at the same time as running 4E (it has so little prep time). But we will run that as a one shot with pregens to get the hang of the system, it is a neat little adventure.

In my game its a full action casting time, because of the style of game we're playing.
