Will there be Psionics rules for FC, or can it be argued "psionics" is just standard magic with more tattoos, since it's already a point based/skill check system?

I can see arguments for both cases, that you can make a mechanically distinct "psionics" which would have a role and not be redundant with magic, AND that you don't "need" it, you can just pick "psi-like" spells and have some trivial flavor text differences. ("Don't need", of course, is not equivalent to "valueless".)

Magic can be easily reskinned as Psionics.

If you want distinct differences, perhaps Magic could be more Potent and Difficult (as the campaign qualities), and you might have Lost Magic for each, such that certain effects were only available under one or another.

I believe this is what has been discussed for running a Dark Sun setting in FC.

That's something I really hate to see, the easy way out. D&D had a nice psionics system, especially after the Expanded Psionics book came out.
It was different from the magic system that was in place and both casters and psions had a place in the group. Making psionics be the same as magic save for some names would be an easy but bland choice.
Sometimes less isn't more.

I really would like to see a psionics system, with psions, psi warriors and the whole shebang.

Perhaps to make Psions completely different, they could be an Edge specialist?

I would *LOVE* to do a psionics ruleset. The entire team loves the stuff - after all, we did SFA for years! We're looking at the larger picture for next year right now...we'll see how that all comes together and if/how psionics fit in.

That's something I really hate to see, the easy way out.

But it makes an easy/decent patch job if you don't want to wait a year or more for an official psionics system.

If I can't get it then I'll create it, half-way jobs simply aren't IT.
But it looks like we'll be getting something.

As long as every thing doesn't revolve around new-age hippy gems and slime, I'm in. I am sure I didn't see any reference to those in the 1st Ed PHB! Mechanically the ExPsiHB was well done, but the whole 3E flavour made me sick....'feel the power of the stones, man' YUCK.

Point of order, both those are from the 19th century mysticism/psionic theories, and crystals were part of SF psionics since at least 1937 (Galactic Patrol by Doc Smith).

I think Psionics and Magic should be kept separate. Whilst there are characters who may use both eg modern days witches as per Charmed, usually characters use one or the other and they are best treated differently.

You might want to consider using the SFA Psionics conversions (from SC 1.0). See link below: http://www.google.com/notebook/public/05459702402456288785/BDQIaLAoQta_vncgh#SDTSXLAoQgrbwncgh

I have used these conversions successfully in both Pulp era and Post Apoc games with SC and they worked very well. I haven't tried them with FC yet but may do for my Planetary Romance game.
