I agree.  These will amazingly useful with only minor alterations.  I also remember the Dragonlance setting had a life of priestly orders and the respective ranks in them.  I didn't buy the book at the time but I thought it was pretty well thought out.

1ed PHB? No wonder the middle eastern Noble title table is totally borked.
It's a mix of arab, persian and turkish titles sometimes detached from their meanings (Malik means king, Bashaw is a different spelling of Pasha, and Caliph is a title which stands above the Padishah)

But it's still a nice find.

the middle eastern stuff comes from the 1e DMG with a few others and doesn't really match up well so I was just guessing at puttting them into the table, adjust as you seen fit though.

Which book is that? I've got pretty much all DL books handy, but that sounds only vaguely familiar. I've been rereading my 3.5e DL in anticipation for a starting campaign, but can't remember running into it in those. Tales? Adventures?

I thought that the one I saw (only once, mind you) was the Campaign Setting in the book, and the priestly ranks were in one of the appendices.

Well, Padishah means 'Master King' (and historically, was really only ever used in three situations: for the Shah of Iran, the sultan of Turkey and the British ruler of India while it was still a subject state) and Caliph is really a religious title that should be categorised seperately.

The Caliph is not really an exclusive religious title, the time period it was used in the only islamic state that existed was a religious one, so the title (which in fact at first only delineated the successors of the prophet) was a political one.

Speaking of power levels, a Padishah is still a step lower than a Caliph. The former may be the Master King but the other is God's representative on earth.

Thanks Thundermonkey.  I was looking for some alternative names for Renown in my game.  Both you and ahzad are my heroes!
