Reese slips the datacard out of her PDA and slides her PDA back into her handbag. Retrieving her drink, she finds a position by a pillar where she can watch, and if necessary hide from flying lead.

Taking a good look around the area, Reese attempts to see if there are any others taking an undue interest in the events, specifically other groups making fight or flight preparations. (Search +5, Notice +6) If there is nobody nearby, she will attempt to look further to see if others are using this as a diversion ploy.

"Oh, your this man's employer. So pleased to meet you. This man just stopped a terrible disaster. what is it you trade in. I'm terribly interested in anyone who has such a competent and able staff..." Stops, balks a minute..
"well, presuming you take pride and reward for them for such able bodied initative. Can't have a nation of milksops can we? I presume you are proud of the fact that this man just spotted and prevented a crime, whatever that waiter may say."

(I believe I can be more convincing than the waiter. I will also work on convincing the security staff the waiter is lying. Sicne I saw him take the wallet, I won't be lying if I say I know he threw it to the floor. I saw it in his hands with my own eyes) Basically, add in to giving trevor credit, both convicting the waiter, and making the boss realize he better change course unless he wants to be embarassed. If I have to, I'll make sure the victim likes me and use one of my opinion modifiers, since i'm sure he could step in at anytime.)

(Geez..getting Trevor in trouble is the opposite effect I want..I'm very focused on not being incompetent here..Smiley)

(schmoozing is what I do..)

GC Comments: I'm just finishing up my pulp char and will write up the next bit when I next get a chance.  I haven't done the rolls yet Nez but your character knows that in this particular circumstance talking around most the people involved to his point of view should be easily achievable.  I wouldn't say Trevor getting in trouble is because you are incompetent, more due to his boss being an a__hole - but maybe with your help Trevor will soon be looking forward to better days.   Smiley

well, presuming you take pride and reward for them for such able bodied initative. Can't have a nation of milksops can we? I presume you are proud of the fact that this man just spotted and prevented a crime, whatever that waiter may say.

Quote from: Mr. Windsor (Elderly Gentleman)
A good point sir.  People like Janette Bateman seem an unfortunate side effect of this prosperous city.  Like a whiny anemic child born to parents who worked hard to provide it's every comfort.

Go away Janette, Trevor has earnt the night off.  I think you best go and get your phone that you let in the car.

This an awkward pause before Jenette turns bright red, then spins on her heel and storms off trying to reclaim some of her dignity.

Quote from: Mr. Windsor (Elderly Gentleman)
That just leaves this unfortunate situation with the waiter.  I can sympathise with the lower classes of Sapphire, living amoungst the riches they can never taste.  But I can't be seen to be soft on crime, not with the accusations that get flung at me on a daily basis.

I also understand normally this would be under corporate security jurisdiction, but its not really normal circumstances is it?  I'm sure you gentleman wouldn't want to explain to your boss you let a waiter spill drinks on me so he could steal my wallet.

Normally I'd be happy to have his arm broken and call it even.  I don't really have a lot of faith in the convoluted inter-jurisdictional nature of Sapphire's legal system.  Obviously that may not be the kind of event your company had planned for tonight though.

I really am at a loss.  Anyone have a suggestion?

There is another brief awkward pause before someone speaks up.

GC Cue:  This is an option for either Ken or a nearby Reese to speak up.  If neither of you want to say anything you think Robert (Reese's date) might be about to say something, but going on experience that might not be a great idea.

Stepping forward, Reese begins clapping slowly and makes her way forward, allowing the crowd to part before her as the Red Sea before the Israelites. The sea of dark suits separating to allow her passage.

"I think he's brave," Reese begins, addressing the elderly gentleman, a slight tone of irrespressible girlish admiration for stupidity in her voice. "This is the sort of person you talk about," she continues, struggling to maintain her cover and provide a coherent defence at the same time.

Reaching the friend, she grabs him by the lapels of his jacket, and presses her hip against him, using her body and moving seductively to silence those who may call out. "This is the man who takes what he wants." Reese states in partial summary of her argument, leaning forward into him and planting a kiss firmly on his lips. "It's a bit sexy," she whispers, just loud enough for those close by to hear.

Turning to the elderly gentleman with an impetuously irresponsible grin, she tells him, "I think this is the type of person you want working for you." With a gesture towards the departing Janette, she adds scornfully, "Not somebody like her."

Turning inwards in her gestures, she says as if addressing herself, "You probably just need to train boys like this," before looking up and putting a questioning glance on her face. Flippancy back in her voice, she adds, "You should make him work it off!"

Stopping, she stands up as if collecting herself and releases the waiters lapels. Forcing a blush to her face, she looks around as if just realising she has become the centre of attention, lets out a nervous giggle and waits.

OOC: Okay, going to spend an AD on this ultra-dodgy scam! Roll what you need to. Also going to use my charm on the old guy.

Kens a little stunned at the suggestion, and looks closely at the reaction of the figure. Presuming this is not going to play well, he'll step in.

"He's already working here. I say get him fired, take his wallet, claim his paycheck, and give him I don't know..5 minutes to never be seen by you again. Then if he's still standing here..THEN you can break his arms. And he should be grateful, since theres no jail, and no broken limbs. What do you think Trevor. Your the hero here, you should have some say in it...."

Quote from: Trevor Martin
I dunno ... maybe make him work for my boss for a week?  He'll be begging to have his arm broken.

Quote from: PE Corporate Security
I have to insist on no physical violence at this event.  If you can agree on suitable compensation then I can leave the matter at that if Mr. Windsor is prepared to.

There is a brief pause, then Mr. Windsor's assistant whispers something to him quietly.
Followed by another brief pause.

Quote from: Mr Windsor
Well she does seem quite taken with him, but I find the young lady still needs to learn a bit about men it would seem.  Although I think her remark about him working it off is very appropriate, he's not the kind of staff person I would hire.

The elderly gentleman turns to look at the waiter.

Quote from: Mr Windsor
Well my light fingered friend here's the deal.  You can go with corporate security, or you can work for this young lady for the next week.  You will be on 24 hour call and have to do everything she says, if at the end of the week she feels you haven't lived up to your end of the bargin - she will phone my assistant who will arrange for the gentleman currently holding you to come break your arm.

Assuming no one objects my assistant Kerry will arrange the finer details with both of you.

The waiter isn't quite sure what to make of the situation, but seems to prefer it to a broken arm.  Robert doesn't look at all happy at the prospect of sharing his date and seems more then a little annoyed with Reese's passionate display.

Quote from: Mr Windsor
Trevor would you and your friend come join me for a wander around the displays please.  Lets go have a look at the trade booth for this Silver Shield mob, what you can tell me about it?

Putting on a surprised look at the turn of events, Reese watches Mr Windsor as he turns towards the booth and disappears with Trevor and Ken, her mind spinning as she considers how to reestablish her character as a slightly naive young socialite.

Speaking under her breath, she whispers loudly enough for Robert to hear and repeatedly, "I can't believe I just did that. I can't believe I just did that..." doing her best to insert a frantic note to her voice as if on a decline from an adrenaline high. She continues to act as if she's lost sense of herself, making slight frantic motions with her hands and fanning herself with them. She continues this until somebody either addresses her or she can pretend to slowly gather herself.

OOC: Basically just waiting to see how people react to her and giving her some time to think how to respond to their reactions.

Well as everything wraps up, I'll look over the mobster. Aret here any cars that would fit 'his sort'. If there are, I'll ask him to come by and talk to me at a time of his convienence. If not, then I'll just take a close look at him for later.

Mr Windsor heads off with 1 of his 2 body guards and Trevor.  He seems interested in hearing about Silver Shield's services from Ken.

He walks past an asian sports car, but has paused briefly near a 4 door luxury sedan from europe.

Kerry, the elderly man's assistant, hands a business card to Reese with a contact phone number that lists her title as 'Consultant' and makes no mention of a company or other organisation.

Quote from: Kerry
You are very lucky young man, he can get quite  ... angry when people try to take advantage of him.  Fortunately for you he likes cars and has already enjoyed a few drinks, so he obviously decided your main crime was choosing the wrong person.

Anyway my name is Kerry.  Why don't you entertain me and tell me a little about yourselves.

Quote from: Richard (the Pickpocket)
My names Rick, I mean Richard.  I'm hoping to set up a small business later, so I'm saving most the money I get from doing catering and cleaning work.  Unfortunately it doesn't pay that well so I occassionally, ummm ... borrow ... a small amount from people to help get me started.

Given how that went I think I'd better look into some other options.  This is my friend Robert who I went to highschool with.  I'm not sure who this lady is, but I've never been kissed like that before - especially not while someone had me in an armlock.

"What sort of business are you interested in starting Richard?"

Or to Trevor, if Reese is taking up to much of Richards attention...

"Well, how do you feel about being in the center of things Mr Martin?  It seems like you've made quite a diffrence today. Would you like a drink, I think you've earned it."

When those conversationas work out I'll turn to Kerry:

"Well at least everything worked out for now. I've used so much of my time, not sure how to justify it to the boss. Listen, you look wealthy enough, would you mind standing by one of my cars for awhile to make it look like I'm doing my job instead of getting involved with wary pickpockets' Ken says with a winning jovial smile.

(IF I get Kerry buy a car, I'll throw a sales pitch, but I won't bother with the bullet hole, except to point out that the car can WITHSTAND bullet holes. I don't think pitching excitment to the mob assistant is the way to go. And I'll just pour on the Charm. I don't really want to get into specifics. I'm no car salesman..but I'm sure Swain is...)

Otheriwse, I'll just share exciting race track stories with the crowd.

OOC: Nezmaster, you can't start 3 simultaneous conversations at once. That's just hoarding the limelight. Besides which, you were invited to follow Mr Windsor, where he specifically addressed you...

I'm going to assume that Swain wandered off with Trevor and Mr Windsor, and that Reese is now in a circle with Kerry, Richard and Robert having a tete-a-tete.

"Ruby," Reese says, introducing herself with exuberance, "I just got to Sapphire City yesterday and I'm going to be a freshman at U. Sapphire." Turning to Richard, she gushes, "That was really brave," and then apologetically at Kerry she adds, "and really stupid." Finally glancing at Robert, she concludes, "Oh and Robert invited me to the party."

Breaking eye contact, she studies the card and waits for one of the three to continue.

GC: I think Nez was in a rush and maybe covering his bases for different possible discussions.  Your assumption of group/character placement does match what I had in mind though, so we will go with that.  More to come in a bit.

Quote from: Ms. Windsor
Oh I see, and Robert's friend got in trouble and you tried to help him out.  That was very brave of you, given the ... circumstances.

So you must be quite important to get two guest tickets Robert?  Do you ask if I mind what you do?

Quote from: Robert Dietel
I'm here as part of the cadetship application process.  We are running our simulations here tonight as one of the displays.  That reminds me, if you'll excuse me I had better go hand my simulation data.  I'll be back once I get that all sorted out.

Robert Grabs his data card from Reese and heads off into the crowd.

Quote from: Ms. Windsor
So tell me Ruby - what do you have in mind for Richard's first task?  A deal is a deal after all.  Maybe you could get him to clean your house and car for you, or where you think of something a little more romantic?
