Rokrah glares at the bartender. "Stay back! This man is dying, and good Jack here will save him!"

Stonecrusher follows the commands almost instinctively and steps back, then thinks about it a moment. He considers moving forward again, just for the sake of being obstinate, but then decides that stepping back just a little gives him more mobility, in case they come over a different part of the wall. So he watches and waits, and prepares his weapon in case something tries to get in.

Slash backs away slowly from the gate, drawing his claymore.

ROUND 5

A few of the staff and other guests notice the rushing figures in the fog and begin shouting. A confused tangle results, as a few grasp weapons and prepare for combat, some head inside with the same intent, and most simply rush around with no apparent aim.

Rokrah:
The innkeeper stumbles back, the blood draining from his face. He appears to have missed Donovan's question while focusing on the threat in front of him.

"Sorry, sir. I didn't know you was helpin' to save a man."

Jack Falseth:
The spreading foulness has been beat back. Another few seconds will put this man into stable condition.

Donovan; Kabuki; Slash; Stonecrusher; Swiftwind:
Figures rush through the fog, their motion frenzied. They move with inhuman speed, as if driven by unholy need. There are humans, dwarves, elves, pech, and others, but they all share the same signs -- signs of death. Skin sloughs of the eldest of them and putrid rot clings to the rest. Their eyes are glassy yet they focus with single-minded clarity. They are here for nothing short of murder -- and you’re next.

The ghoulish figures leap onto the walls, scrabbling for purchase with broken nails and putrescent fingers. Your quick action with the gate has provided the inn staff and guests a few seconds to act.

Kabuki
Kabuki shouts down to the others, keeping it short. "Undead, fast, coming up the walls."
She then moves to kick at the closest one as it climbs.

Stonecrusher shudders a little, but holds his ground, and begins to smash the first one that's clear, being careful not to actually smash at the gate itself.

"get as much of a wall as possible formed up, someone get these other patrons inside, " donovan says as he drops back down to get into line with the group and draws his sword.

Rokrah, seeing combat break out at the walls, desperately wishes to go join in the fun. However, he knows enough about tactics to realize that staying back to be a second line before the enemy can get into the tavern is a good idea.

ROUND 6 - IC

Raveners:
Figures from a nightmare claw their way over the walls to either side of the inn. Skin sloughs off on rough stones, and pieces of finger are left in the cracks between.

The first casualty of this battle is a lad barely eight summers of age -- a young stablehand for the inn. Three of the putrid beasts fall onto the wailing boy, tearing and consuming great handfuls of flesh.

Similar ghastly figures beat at the gate and continue to climb the front wall. While neglect has eroded the defensive value of the side walls, the need to present a good front for potential customers has kept the front wall in good repair and clear of obstruction.

Mangled Rider:
Jack's efforts have returned a flush of color to the mangled rider's cheeks. While not exactly healthy, neither is he dying.

The sounds of rending flesh seem to snap him out of his unconscious state. "No! I must have led them here," he sobs. He pushes himself to his feet, and readies his axe. "We're all going to die!"

Kabuki:
The creatures climbing the wall are close enough to reach. Your first attack eliminates the threat from one opponent, as you drive your fist through his soft-melon head. Your second opponent is slowed by the falling body of his neighbor just enough that you mistime your second blow, missing.

Innkeeper:
The innkeeper bellows "into the inn!", then follows his own advice.

Jack draws his double pistol, stands ready next to the wounded rider, and aims at one of the nearest  "Stand your ground, keep calm and don't panic, and we'll get through this yet."

Swift extends his left arm out and the limbs of his longbow unfold out of it.
With his right hand he reaches to his left hand and grabs the string as it stretches taut.
Then, as he pulls back on the string an arrow composed of red flames pulls out of the upper limb of the bow already nocked.
He brings the bow to a quarter draw awaiting a target.

Stonecrusher takes his swings, giving it as much might as he dares, knowing there will be one after that. Then again, he's run gauntlets in the arena where there seemed to be no end in sight. The more time he gives the others the more lives he saves, and he's making his own choices. "Today I die free" he says, as he chops away at the oncoming hordes.
