Getting my hybrid campaign off the ground.. and ran into a road block.

Lost Magic (All disciplines except for Healing).  So.. you need to spend Level x 5 in Reputation.  Reputation is developed by Legend + X.  ...Spycraft definately doesn't have Legend...

So.. if I'm using Big Score... any idea how to cruch down reputation into a fiscal number?  ...or to work Legend INTO the system?

Spycraft already has Rep/Net Worth, so porting over shouldn't be hard. And Profession checks are the preferred method of increasing Rep gained after each mission. If you're wondering about starting Rep, the Rules As Written say it's 2 no matter the level. If you'd prefer something to work with, FC's 10/level works pretty well.

I typed that one a little quick.  Didn't finish the complete thought.  I blame work.  Agent is spot on.  Let me a little more thorough.

"Lost" magic w/ Cash n' Carry.  Net worth disappears and Reputation remains.  Let's say my players weasel out and scheme $10,000,000 from a bank, a country, what have you.  Would it be 'simple enough' to just break the Rep cost down to cash by using the Net Worth equivalent?  2 Rep = $100,000 cold hard cash?  At which point... a level 5 spell is...
(5 Rep x 5 x $50,000) 1.25 million in cash or 25 Rep?

FC Wizard Level 3 completes 3 Caliber III "Missions".  Walk away with 39 Reputation.
SC Hacker level 3 completes 3 Caliber III "Missions".  Walks away with 30 reputation.  39 only if he makes 3 successful DC21 Profession / Accomplishment Checks.

My concern is.. I'm trying to make magic a plot lynch pin and make it very 'special' to the party.  "Lost" effect and what not.  However.. I'm just hesitant to how the loss of 9 Rep would factor in if they choose not to sink in the skill points to keep up with the FC math.  I want to have a magic class available, while difficult, I don't want it to be the only thing they spend time / money on.  I want to leave the char with some Rep to play with.

I may just modify the multiplier for Lost to give the players a little more reasonable to have a caster in the party.  Mainly because that sort of cash flow would mean if the player skims on the magic I'm assuming they're going to be taken, they'll be power equipment gaming (or throwing around money like snowballs).

It depends on how you want to handle the magic Koala.

One idea is if you, as GM/GC, dole it out like a Prize or Loot. If the magic wielder is relying on books to learn, then every now & then he can come across another one. Perhaps getting one is an entire mission unto its self, even moreso if it is a Compulsion Subplot. The aspect this does is allows you to control how prevalent it is and requires the magic wielder to study Cultures or an ancient history to be able to understand it. Doling out a few spells here or there permits that much easier than not.

They still have to worry about Cash 'N' Carry but perhaps a little barter might be in order, or even the value of the books is worth a great deal and they have to continually protect them or try to steal them back from someone else. Heaven forbid the savage in the party decides the pages from the book are toilet paper and wipes his ass with them.

Puma, you're my damn hero.  Not sure why I never thought of that until you said it.  I give you what I think you "need"... you cash out for what you want.  Genius!  ..I swear.. work is making me dumb lately.
