Ahem.

It was pointed out by TSKoala that dwarves can't swim.

I believe Noel Robertson wrote 'Guardians of the Flame', where dwarves couldn't swim, either.  Needless to say, Akira the Dwarf gets knocked overboard in one of the fight scenes.

Akira:  I think I'm going to ask the captain if I can keep a length of this anchor chain.

other hero:  Akira?  I thought dwarves couldn't swim.  We thought you were dead.

Akira:  Oh, we can't swim.  But dwarves can CLIMB.

Moral:  If you can't do things one way, you can probably do them in another.  Spycraft is a CRAFTY game.  Be crafty.

The funny thing is - they haven't been able to swim in crafty products for 2 years. I feel the debate is a healthy sign we're getting some fresh blood Smiley

Origin of the Species has them unable to swim unless they are Coral Dwarves which lifts that limit because those dwarves live on the shore of large bodies of water. ... While not delineated in FC, you can add those two Dwarven Species feats for the Coral from OotS to your game.

Happiness!

I don't recall that scene but it definitely fits with what I remember of the series' tone. *adds books to pile to be re-read*

I think that you mean Cliff-Born. Smiley They also gain Captain as a favored class. So if you want stunty pirates.... Arrr!

I seem to recall them being called Coral Dwarves when OotS:CF was still being worked out. Smiley So, not all that surprising a mistake.

I'm sure that in some place, some time, some gamer is going to insist that the I can swim feat is going to rid his dwarf character of this disadvantage Cheesy

Already happened.  I was running a shadowrun game a week after the Classic Fantasy came out and one of my PCs [who hadn't played much spycraft before], took Dwarf Student, and an interest in Swimming, thinking that he could "break the Dwarven mould and set himself apart from the other Dwarves".

I would most likely let a stunt like that fly.

I did.  In my mind half of GM'ing is knowing when to ignore the rules in favour of cool.
