Heh, reminds me of Escape Veocity where you can take on passengers to raise cash, but never actually have a deadline to drop them off at their desired port.

So summary of connections so far:
Currently together, arrived on privateer ship: Weoxgyld, Haldar, Shyla,

I can totally see this as my character's breaking point with her captain.
"You took on PASSENGERS!? This is a PRIVATEER vessel! What is WRONG with you!?"

But then why would she stay with the passengers?  Perhaps it was the other way around, the captain didn't appreciate Shyla's taking it upon herself to bring passengers aboard and fired her...

That's a wonderful game.

The worst thing about MacOS X was that it wasn't backwards compatable with any of the previous OSes, so no EV Sad

Ouch.  Well, it's available on Windows.  EV III, that is.  At least, I somehow had it working, but that was a motherboard, two OS installs, and a complete HD loss ago.

EV Nova works under OS X, and I have very distinct recollections of having a version of EV that worked on OS X as well.

Pretty much, yep.  Just our party mage/general schmott guy Teo's starting position to decide, assuming no-one has any objections.  Where would you like to begin, GD?

I can go for meeting the group on the road. Common cause against banditry is always a good group builder.  Tongue

Your captain is probably a pragmatic man.
Ships are very expensive to run so you have to make silver anyway you can. Privateers often moonlighted as traders during the 18th century. These guys are privateers right, not pirates.

Weoxgyld has the skills for working passage.

:-)

Although to be fair, more bandit attacks would be one of a few side effects of routinely disguising oneself as a human.  Less lynch mobs, naturally, but more bandits.  But bandits basically equate to fun and profit, so why worry? ;-)

A suggested typcial tale:
Paiter Whitshoal:
"My employer enjoys a um, 'unique perspective' (rolls eyes). We did meet a poor 'unemployed mercinary band'. He asked to camp with them overnight. He was awake all night protecting them. He spent the morning greeting merchant caravans that passed us while he ate a leasurely breakfast with those likeable 'salt of the earth' unemployed mercinaries."

ok I'm starting to fall into character.  Smiley

Be that as it may, we're talking about the perspective of someone who signed on for the raiding and the fighting, not the shipping and the trading. There's also a bit I've worked in my head about the captain's overly cautious choices of targets and Shyla's irritation over it. She did switch from bloodthirsty pirates to a pragmatic privateer. She's used to one life and not pleased with the other. Smiley

Ok, we'll likely be starting this weekend. It depends a bit on what work throws at me tomorrow. More info when I kick it off.

Any remaining questions or concerns?

I have several issues of campaign management. You need not deal with them now.

I had a question about switching to Lancer instead of Soldier.  Does the "mount" gained as a core ability have to be used as a mount?  I'm looking at becoming a Beastmaster and since Soldier doesn't have Ride as a class skill, I was going to use Prodigal Skill to gain an extra origin skill, but I'd rather not spend a feat on that.  I was thinking about starting with 2 pack leader wolves, one from the lancer core ability and one from my level one feat.  Will that be ok?

p.s.  I upped my CHA to 10.
