Ok, the scene is not over, but we can do a little after action on the first fight. I'm also going to be very open about this, so:

(click to show/hide)

That was what you guys were facing, which is a slightly beefed up version of a OGL Goblin Warrior 1 converted. The original AP called for three of them as an even match for four to five player characters, but I thought that might be a little easy.

Now, feedback. Did seven goblins feel too much of a challenge? Too little? Did combat feel like it took to long (ignoring the delays regarding posting and such)?

There's still some more to this scene, so keep posting. Smiley

Two to three rounds is hardly too long for a combat. Seemed fine to me, though I'd like to roll above a 3 on an attack roll at some point...

OOC: The GM throws a plush action die at fopoy for the bad, and incorrect pun. The goblin's on the wagon, not the fence. Tongue)
i guess i could have said he'd fallen off the wagon of life, but it does not have teh same ring to it.

Punsters...

Anyway, this reminds me. Keep track of AD I hand out folks for XP time.

Or... not...

 Huh?

Anyone see the AD award = 25 XP bit in FC?

Huh.

Anyway.

Walter, I know you're probably packing, but if I don't get a post from you before, say, 1800 EDT tomorrow, I'll push the inscrutible drake into the background bfor the next bit.

Packing? My household goods are already in a warehouse somewhere waiting on shipment to Germany. I have been a bit busy making that happen, however. Tongue

I'm offering to aid in cooperative Medicine/Stabilize checks. My chance of success remains moderately low [roll + 2 (skill bonus) - 2 (beast) vs DC 15; no kit, so error range 1-3], but at least a critical error doesn't kill the patient. Tongue

Walter

[EDIT: I just re-read the cross-species medicine bit, and as written it looks like the penalty would apply only when treating beasts, and not just because I am one. I guess all the medicine books are written toward treating folk (damned folkists Tongue). I still think I'll stay with the assist.]

OOC: If people have a problem with me rolling Initiative, let me know and we can do it over.

I suspect the game will run smoother if you allow initiative order to occur in whatever order players post. Otherwise later folks are waiting on earlier folks.

Lightseeker launches himself into the air trailing smoke from clenched jaws, making best time to a position from which he can best release the burning death churning in his belly.

Priority 1: No collateral damage, people especially but also real property.
Priority 2: More than one enemy caught in this 20-ft beam attack.

The problem with that is that it rewards player obsessiveness over character mechanics.

Or, put another way, those characters with a high initiative bonus (or Lightning Reflexes) loose part of the value of their abilities.

Let me think about it.

That was a concern I had,  and lightning reflexes is the only thing that is lost but coordinated attack.  The ability to ready actions is useful if you have a high inititative.  Coordinated attack is useful if a player has a low initiative.

These two mechanics may get lost in a post be forum game as opposed to a tabletop due to the speed of actions.

Heh..

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that conversion of the adversaries in the printed AP will not do at all if I want to challenge the party. Simon's bleeding problem was more fluke then expected outcome, and other then that you've been walking all over the little freaks. Sad

Oh, and unless people have a complaint, I think during combat we'll go with a window of 24 hours from my last post before you're NPC'd for the round. I'm open to other suggestions though. The primary other choice would be by 1800 (6:00 PM) or so Eastern.

Well, they *are* goblins with a CR of 1/3, so personally I have no problem with them essentially being mooks we can one-shot in order to get the adventure rolling at 1st level.

However, looking at the conversion rules, they should have a base health of III (d8 hit die) + I or tough (no. hit dice > CR) - I (size). So they should be Health III or Health II / tough I, and you've just got them at Health II. Plus, throw in swarm as a cheap & flavourful addition (they're cowards, so of course they'll mob rather than go mano e mano) and balance it with meek (they'll also run):

Goblin (Small Folk Walker - 34 XP): Str 10, Dex 10, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 09, Cha 06; SZ S (1x1, Reach 1); Spd 30 ft. ground; Init III; Atk V; Def III; Res III; Health II; Comp III; Skills: Blend V, Sneak V; Qualities: Darkvision I, interest (Evil, Lamashtu), meek, swarm, tough I.

Oh, I see what I did.

I got challenge rating and conversion threat mixed up. Swarm and meek are good additions too. Luckily this won't be the last time you'll see them this adventure, so it's all good. Smiley
