On a different note can someone explain to me how the Spell Effect/Trigger Charm in the Magic Item rules creation works? The cost of its states Spell Level x Uses but the books also says Charms grow with the character's Career Level, does that mean I have to invest reputation into the item repeatedly to derive its benefits of being able to cast a particular spell more times according to Table 4.39 as it grows in power?

Example: I have an item level 1 that casts Haste 1 per scene (Spell Level 3 x 1 Use for Rep Cost 3). Say my character becomes Level 6, does he get to cast Haste twice per scene for free (as the table shows) or will he have to pay 3 additional Rep to be able to do it?

Neither.

That's item level (or creator level). If your character has a level one item and he goes up to level two, the item is still level one.

Now, depending on the game, you can let them spend Rep to level up items when they level up.

Will those of us who have the First Printing PDF be able to receive the Second Printing PDF as a free or reduced price upgrade?

Everyone who purchased the First Printing PDF will receive the Second Printing PDF absolutely free.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Still, logically it seems there should be some option for dislocating/breaking jointd/fingers/hands/feet/etc

Maybe we'll expand the options in time but all the big stuff's covered with critical injuries already.

Uh guys, that Charm's costed by spell level, which never changes.

So what's the point of Table 4.39 in the Magic Items section? I am rather confused.

Drifting off topic a little, apologies... I bought the 1st edition Hardback while I was overseas and don't have a receipt... How would I go about getting the 2nd ed PDF (if I understand correctly that was the intention?)

You don't get the second edition pdf if you only bought the print copy. Users who bought the original edition PDF will get an updated PDF, but not users who bought a first printing PRINT copy.

As I understand it there will be an errata sheet that will be made available for everyone regardless of what copy you bought.

I couldn't find this in the master thread, but it seemed like a big question.

How does Spell Defense work against magic that doesn't require a Spellcasting check (divine casters, magic items, & natural spell NPC ability), or does it only apply to arcane casters?

Spellcasters who don't roll spellcasting checks are assumed to have gotten the minimum result needed to cast the spell.

Read the sentence immediately above the table (the last one in Spell Effect) and let us know if you're still confused.

So what's the point of Table 4.39 in the Magic Items section? I am rather confused.

Read the sentence immediately above the table (the last one in Spell Effect) and let us know if you're still confused.

uh yeah it states thusly; The item may cast the spell a number of times per scene or
adventure as shown on Table 4.39: Spell Uses (see below).

And I am still somewhat confused. The top paragraph of the charms section says this:  Unlike Essence effects, which are fixed, Charm effects
are determined by the item or artifact’s level. This ensures
that newly found magic items gradually improve over the
life of the campaign, and it’s the cornerstone for artifact
advancement.
As with an Essence, all of a Charm’s details must be chosen
when the item is introduced and cannot change. Each Charm
can be applied as many times as there are unique details for it.

If the Spell Effect Charm cost is determined by Spell Level x Uses as stated in page 195, how do you peg Item Level, as well as its cost, as per what's written in Table 4.39? Say a character has a Level 1 Item that can cast a Spell Level 1-3 spell once per scene and he later reaches Level 6 which, given the aforementioned paragraph, the item should evolve with him assuming I am reading it right. This technically lets him cast the same spell twice per scene according to the table, does he pay Rep to be able to cast it one additional time or does it come for free?

He has to pay rep to advance it to his level otherwise the object's level remains unchanged.

Yeah you're right, I read the sample items. Sorry for bothering everyone. Though I'd like to report some errors in the cost chart, particularly illustrated the Blade of the Berserker. Lesser Damage bonus was valued at 10 per plus +1 were in actuality it was worth only 8.
