Nothing amazingly high tech, just raw power.
There is a great deal to be said about the joys of hurling a couple of tons of shell over a score of miles.

A full 27 barrel broadside blast.  I always liked the Iowa.

What version was that?

Iowa's had three turrets each with three 16in (406mm) cannons.
I always had a soft spot for New Jersey.
She later had 16 Harpoons and 32 Tomahawks.

Another big ship: Washington was the only one to sink an enemy battleship. They also lost an admiral, in a "man overboard!" incident. She too had only nine 16in cannons.

Heh. I confess I wrote all of mine based on how they would look as a 3.5 inch action figure or figure/vehicle set.  Smiley

Why do you think I made a tank commander/gunner? I mean, someone has to go in the box with the radio controlled tank. Wink

As well as the Unit's superspecial personalized transport plane. Glad we're on that wavelength.  Smiley

Though I concur with Andersen's thoughts on the current Joe action figures. I finally saw them this weekend, and I swear I heard the angels cry.

I saw a couple of 'push button for movie quote' GI Joe toys on the weekend. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.

(Don't worry, the only noises Snake Eyes made were different types of gun fire Tongue)

If I recall right, Iowa had the 9 400mm barrels.. and then.. like.. 15-20 100+mms.  Point everything in one direction.. and just say cheese.

And if you shoot them really fast in one direction right at sunset you can roll the ship over and enter a different dimension.  Smiley

Ah, when I think of broadsides I only count the main guns, not the secondaries.

Well, yeah.. but. when you're trying to plan a hilariously over gunning NPC... I'll take every gun a boat has.  Smiley

Don't forget about firing arcs, only about half of the 100mm would be able to fire either port or starboard...

Touche'! Definately forgot about the 100mm facing arc.  Still.. even 12 guns would be great! Smiley

After checking my library...  Cheesy

An Iowa-class battleship can bring to bear on a broadside:
 9 x 16in, 50 cal guns (406mm) and
 10 x 5in, 38 cal (127mm) guns (on 5 twin mounts).
She also has 80 x 40mm AA and 50 x 20mm guns.

Happiness!

Your wish, Koala.

The US Navy had designed a super battleship featuring twelve 410mm main guns and heavier armour plating in order to combat Yamato and her sisters; when operational needs emphasised carriers and the faster Iowa vessels after Midway, the Montana class was canceled before any construction began.

Considering all the false starts the Navy has had naming ships in honour of the Treasure State, this maybe should be in the Corrupt a Wish thread.
