Does a characters Feats & Abilities apply to a weapon which they command?  (I'm going to assume yes, because it applies on Laser guided, but I want to ask.)  Crew fired Artillery.  Master Sarge is the NPC.  He spots the target, they fire.  Does his various skills apply to the shot?

In an artillery team... I'd say the commander or whoever is setting up the fire mission. For a tank or AFV, the gunner. In the case of a howitzer firing directly? It might be the gunner I don't know enough about field artillery operations. Who's actually aiming the gun for direct fire?

Basically, for crew I look at who does what to figure out whose abilities, feats, and whatever apply.

Let's say Navy Captain.  He does the math, maps and trajectory calculations.  Confirms the target and orders the deck cannon to fire.  Does the Captain's abilities apply to the deck gun?

That sounds like the Commander quality and/or Joint Action there.

I'm pretty sure the Captain designates the target, and the fire controlmen does the math, aiming, and firing. If the captain is laying in the solution, I'd probably let his abilities apply, although it's not the normal method of operation.

You're right, Krensky.  Typically, the captain doesn't do the math.  I was just trying to create a char who could command and effect with abilities very large weapons.  Whether it be Tomahawk, Artillery, Laser Guided.. etc.  Not PC-feasible... but still trying for the NPC variety.

After reading the Artillery Gun Rules.. it sounds like the character 'ordering' the fire rolls... but nothing concrete either way.

In that case, I'd assume so. That's somewhat I was going for with Hammer in the contest.

It's equally where I was going with Flea, which is why I gave him the big Tactics.

Yeah.. I was going that way with one last entry.. but then I realized... hard to design a U.S. Military person who is using 400mm Artillery for fire support.. ....when there's no battleships left in the fleet....

Depends, how well would the toy sell? The Unit might have some rediculously large AFVs too.

Heh. I confess I wrote all of mine based on how they would look as a 3.5 inch action figure or figure/vehicle set.  Smiley

Based on the latest crop of 3.5" figures doing the rounds, I'd say "appalling" myself,. To the point where I seriously want to see what McFarlane could do in that height range because it honestly can't be any worse than what Hasbro and even Kenner are churning out.

Why do you think I made a tank commander/gunner? I mean, someone has to go in the box with the radio controlled tank. Wink

Right.. but now.. that more or less is summarized by Tomahawks.  Intelligent missiles have taken the role of the really big bore gun.  ...not I couldn't have designed it with Tomahawks.. but.. it just ruined my image in the head.  Some little geeky seaman on the bridge of a carrier typing away.. then... KABLAMM!  A full 27 barrel broadside blast.  I always liked the Iowa.  Nothing amazingly high tech, just raw power.  Ah well...
