I just got the second printing core rulebook yesterday.  I was at a different rpg store today and noticed that the version they were selling looked different than the one I purchased the day before at a different store.  They both had identical ISBN numbers on them, so they both must be second printings, but mine is very square-shaped.  It is quite massive and looks like a volume of the Encyclopedia Brittanica.  The spine is square-shaped.  The one I saw at the store today has a curved spine and looks like the internal binding might be better.  It also seems to allow the pages to lay nicely when you lay the book down with it open.  On the pages side, away from the spine, the edges of the pages appear scalloped or curved as well, like a 'U'.  It also didn't appear as massive as mine since it is bound differently/tighter.

Which is the newer book? My square one or the curved one?

You have the old one. If (when) the binding fails, contact Mongoose.

The curved binding is the second printing with the better binding. As Krensky said, just let Mongoose know and they'll replace the square binding version for free.

Look on the positive side.

You just got two copies for the price of one. When the binding fails, take it to Kinkos or wherever and get it spiral/comb bound with plastic covers. Velobinding or loose leaf are other options.

Yes, Mongoose has been very good about replacing the books when the binding fails - I have no complaint in that regard.

They were taking a stab at doing all printing in house, and got burned in the process. Mongoose is hiring printing out again, having learned from this experiment. It is really too bad - some of what they were thinking of in regards to print-on-demand was actually pretty darned nifty. Sad

Yeah, I actually found one of the newer revisions and found out it was also the square bound one (thus the first run of 2.0 Second Printing with the Crafty logo). I also have the Pocket Edition, so if it does fall apart, I will still have a book to use until I would contact Mongoose.

Ashes to ashes,
