I've seen alot of threads on here converting stargate, farscape, and various other sci-fi stuff for spycraft rules. However, I haven't seen much metal gear show up on here. Granted, metal gear works with spycraft rather fluidically, but some stuff could use some elaboration in my opinion. Thus I'm starting a new project:
METAL GEAR SPYCRAFT.

It's generally open source, and I'd like any involvement people can offer. I'm hoping to find a simple website to host this information so people won't have to search through threads to find it all.

I'll start out with some simple conversions

  • Chaff Grenade: An EMP gadget, caliber IV. Otherwise identical to a flash/bang grenade. This would allow the mechanism to be used at a distance, and to apply a tricks such as bounce.
  • Tranquilizer guns: I can't decide whether or not to turn this into an upgrade for handguns, or to use a miniturized gadget pick to put a Distinject Model 35 into the pistol. There's been a variety of different guns in the games, usually lethal but converted for nonlethal purposes.
  • Stun Knife: A simple survival knife with a miniturized melee stun gun gadget pick.
  • Solid Eye: A miniturized nightvision/thermal goggles. I'm thinking about the identification function, possibly a bonus to certain knowledge checks?
  • OctoCamo: A gadget that grants the camouflaged vehicle quality. Each use changes the terrain type. I'll have more specifics on this later.

I plan on statting up the metal gear ray, rex, and gekko, the B&B equipment, solidus' tentacles, and some other stuff.

Oh I stated REX years ago for a cyberpunk campaign I was working on lets see if I can find him...

First I found my interpretation of a GEKKO after seeing the very first MGS4 trailer.

Guard Bot – Cal V- Init IV, Atk VII, Def III, Res VIII, DS VIII Comp: III; Skills: Notice VII; Fleet (10 ft), DR 5, Oversized (L 2x2), Augmented (FN Minimi), Construct, Tough (3 saves), Str +5, Dex +3.

Ok here's Rexy-
Metal Gear
Size H(3x5) Occ 1 A/T 2/3 MPH 85/45 Def/Save 7/30 Comp 60/+5 Cargo 200 lbs.
Rng/Fuel 10/diesel
Qualities: BPD*, GDG (Cal IV Laser Attack(3 uses))
HAR,PVI(X), SEN(Radar6), UNC, UNF, UNR,
WPN (HMG, Anti-Surface, Radar,Light Missile, Cruise Missile)
Year 20XX Street Value R$1,000,000,000

*Bipedal (BPD): This vehicle is considered Tracked for the sake of Terrain
Modifiers, with the exception that the modifiers for all Types of Terrain
(Jungle Desert etc.) are reduced by 1. Additionally when this vehicle
suffers a traction damage result, it makes a Damage Save against double the
damage (rounded down). Bipedal vehicles are also subject to the sprawl effect.

I figure ray would be more or less the same though perhaps less tough and with marine capabilities.

Hope this helps, oh given recent developments I would switch out the laser gadget for a laser rifle or laser cannon out of the Transmech origin of the species supplement. You know if you have it, if not just handwave the laser gadget as having more than 3 shots.

I dig the Bipedal quality. I was going to make one myself, since there's no precendence for walking vehicles, but that seems spot on, better than anything I would have come up with, so let's go with that.

The Rex statblock is great, but I would lower the speed some. It certainly wasn't fast. How much HAR do you think it should have? And I would add the PDC (Point Defense Cluster) quality from its NBS systems and clarify the WPN (2 x 30mm Gatling, 4d6 laser, 14 x light radar-guided anti-surface missile launcher).

I like the Gekko, but definitely give it a kick attack! Those damn things kicked me all over the place.   Sad

I don't have Transmech, I assume those weapons just deal laser damage. So I agree, a simple laser attack should suffice, definitely more than 3 shots. Maybe use the same method for RAY's water cutter, mechanically. I'll definitely use this as a framework for RAY.

Thanks! I'm glad people are contributing.
