Hi,

According to the book, it says the Tactical Headset is Tiny size, regardless of Caliber.  The size chart in the Combat section gives an example object of Tiny Size as a Microwave Oven.  Is there a type of Tactical Radio / Headset that is just an earpiece?  I remember watching the T.V. show "Alias" where everyone had communications that fit into their ear.  Even miniaturizing the Tactical Headset as a gadget (which would cost about $300,000 for encrypted headset), it would still be Diminutive (about the size of a bowling ball).

I'm not sure if I'm missing something from the charts, or if this is just one of those technological things that change over time.  If anyone has any ideas about making an "earpiece" radio, that would be great.  I know that there was an example in the 1st edition of SpyCraft as a Gadget.

Thanks!

If I remember right.. gear size and Combat size are different.  Like, a car is medium on the combat chart but huge when compared to gear.  Don't have my books on me right now.. but I believe that's how it's working.

(Hand Gun = small, Rifle = medium, RPG = Large compared to Motorcycle = small, car = medium, Hummer = Large.)

Oh.. and on a minor LOL scale.  Imagine a Comm piece the size of a Microwave?! 11 lbs of gear just for a 2 way.  Ugh.  My back hurts just thinking about that.

No, same scale, although the examples may not be the best. Basically d20 size categories aren't granular enough.

Tactical Radios range in size from the motorola talk about devices to backpack or suitcased sized devices depending on range and features. Headsets plug into these devices. That said, if you want your players to have magical tactical ear buds, let them. It's not like it will break anything. Also, remember that the pick gets EVERYONE on the team a radio.

I'd say that what you're looking at there would be classified as a satellite radio

Funny, I'd say it was a tactical radio, and one that may predate manpack satcom terminals.

Hey, OverNinja, care to identify that piece?

Boys boys.. I think he was looking for laryngophones that hook into a two way.  Not the 20 lbs. portable comm stations.

Call me nuts, last time I saw a breach & enter team, no one was carting around a 20 lbs radio pack...

The SCR-300-A was in response to your comment.

As for what he wants, just change the size code. Or just magically let them communicate after spending a pick for the comm gear.

It won't break anything.

Especially since the example objects for things below medium or (maybe) small don't really seem right. Ignore that column and compare against other objects on the gear lists.

Heh, some of the WWII era comm units would ground through the operator, leading to the nickname 'Sparky' or 'Sparks' for the radio operators in the field.

Yeah, the earbuds should be smaller - and the examples on the size table could be better. Technically, an earbud should probably be Nuisance but if you go there I strongly recommend also making them Obvious (so folks don't wander around with a +20 Stealth bonus to hide them).

Well, they don't carry radio packs, but what about circular saws?

I suppose now we're going into the LEO vs. Military part of things.  LEO.. circular saw.  Maybe.  In the COMPOST or in a Carrier.  At that point though, a LEO team could probably get away with a breach charge authorization.  Now, military boys.. I dunno.  They're not my forte.  I could ask em the next time I play...
